Job Description RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary We are looking for an independent, motivated part-time Research Assistant with experience in Machine Learning to join our team. In this role, you will contribute to applying (+/- developing) state-of-the-art machine learning models that analyze next generation sequencing and clinical data to support personalized medicine solutions. You will take a hands-on approach in identifying and working with diverse datasets to drive machine-learning analysis. General Duties

  • Apply advanced machine learning techniques, including Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), to solve complex problems in precision medicine.
  • Collaborate with our team (machine learning and clinical experts) to apply (+/- build) predictive models that personalize treatment strategies for patients.
  • Independently source, analyze, and manage bioinformatics and biomedical datasets, including genomic, clinical, and other omics data, for use in machine learning models.
  • Work on end-to-end machine learning pipelines, from data preprocessing to model training, evaluation, and optimization, ensuring high performance and accuracy.
  • Use bioinformatics tools and resources to integrate complex datasets and facilitate model development.
  • Contribute to the development of new machine learning methodologies to address unique challenges in genomic and healthcare data.

Education / Experience

  • Graduate degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Genomics or a related field.
  • Strong experience with machine learning algorithms and proficiency in deep learning, particularly with Graph Neural Networks (GNNs).
  • Experience working with genomic datasets.
  • Proficiency in Python and machine learning libraries such as PyTorch, PyG, DGL, and scikit-learn.
  • Hands-on experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation in real-world datasets.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently, especially in sourcing and preparing large datasets.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Required Skills

  • Familiarity with precision medicine and machine learning applications in healthcare.
  • Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics tools for genomics or transcriptomics analysis.

Status : Temporary Part-Time (8h/week)

Pay Scale : $35 per hour

Work Shift : Variable Schedule
