Summer Student role under the Canada Summer Jobs Grant
SCOPE OF POSITION
The EarlyON Child and Family Centre serves children 0-6yrs along with their families and caregivers in the communities of Kanata, West Carleton, and Stittsville. Under the supervision of the EarlyON Team Manager, the Program Assistant is responsible for assisting the team in the delivery of core EarlyON Child and Family Centre activities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with planning of EarlyON Child and Family Centre activities, drop-ins, and workshops, including the development of communication materials
- Assist in promoting a positive, creative, and exciting learning environment for EarlyON participants
- Assist in setting up and maintaining a safe and secure environment for children in EarlyON programs
- Provide program and administrative assistance to the EarlyON team
- Attend team meetings and educational activities as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be between the ages of 15 to 29
- Early Childhood Education, Child & Youth Worker and/or equivalent related experience
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and organizational skills
- Knowledge of EarlyON activities (playgroups, resource services, lending library, drop-ins and community outreach)
- Experience working with young children in a group environment
- Experience relating directly to parents/caregivers
- Experience with and sensitivity to diverse community groups
- Ability to communicate fluently in English, spoken and written; French and/or other languages are an asset
- Available to work flexible hours
- A valid driver’s license, with access to a vehicle preferred
SALARY/HOURS OF WORK
- 35 hours per week, hours include evenings and Saturday
- $17.60 hourly (plus 4% vacation pay)
This role is contingent upon funding.
