About the role
The Production Planner is responsible for ensuring schedule adherence and on time delivery to customer. Works closely with internal parties to ensure the production schedule satisfies customer demand and requirements. Able to deliver efficient, effective and flexible solutions to meet production requirements.
Responsibilities
- Monitor, and plan material purchasing activity – synchronizing material supply with production requirements
- Proactively identify, co-ordinate and communicate best course of action to pending material shortages/overages to protect service levels while minimizing obsolescence.
- Manage target stocking levels on assigned categories to assure target service level is achieved while operating within category budgets.
- Works closely with Planning Manager to schedule jobs, advises expedite requests from PMO, and increase production line efficiency
- Communicates production issues and risks to supervisor, and other internal parties
- Follows business planning process and ensures shop floor adheres to master schedule
- Consistently updates program managers with job statuses and expected delivery dates
- Ensures that adjustments and changes to schedule are carried out efficiently on the production line
- Work with cross functional teams to deliver effective solutions
- Work closely with shop floor lead hands and production supervisor to ensure work is being done on time to meet customer demand
- Develop and maintain good relationships with supply chain and ensure demand for components is met and deliveries made on time
- Work closely with the purchasing team to ensure jobs are completed and delivered as per schedule from subcontractors
- Comply with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policies
- Monitor and manage master production schedule report and update regularly.
- Release and print work orders for machining, assembly, EMA.
- Following up in production floor, setting daily priorities and moving jobs team from one station to another.
- Set priorities on job Location for all departments except EMA
- Provide promise dates based on information from lead hands
- Do date changes based on forecast.
- Review MPs for errors or discrepancies in MRP
- Follow up with ECO
- Tracking down parts and pushing production
- Maintain raw material for operation change for WIP jobs
Experience, Education and Skill Requirements
- Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in Business, Supply Chain, Material Management, or equivalent
- Minimum 2-3+ years of experience
- material planning, production planning, or production control/scheduling, ideally within aerospace or manufacturing environment
- Able to work in a high-pressure environment while maintaining strong sense of urgency and focus on customer service
- Good working knowledge and experience of using Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems
- Key knowledge and understanding of a variety of manufacturing and supply chain processes
- Strong IT systems knowledge and skills including advanced Excel skills, pivot tables, graphing and measures
- Membership of an appropriate professional body would be advantageous - APICS certification
