Duties:
Under the direction of the Manager, Patient Care Services, you will work as part of a team, providing services to people with complex mental illness and substance use disorders.
- Coordinate and deliver therapeutic recreation programs for Forensic Assessment and Rehabilitation Units
- Set goals and objectives for recreation and leisure studies.
- Design program based on client needs, interests, and best practices aligned with clinical direction
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for recreation services
- Manage equipment and resources effectively
- Engage in ongoing professional development
- Research and adapt recreation opportunities for clients with complex mental health and substance use disorders
- Collaborate with internal teams, external agencies, and families to support client goals
- Supervise students and volunteers
- Facilitate quality and risk management activities for the program Complete assessments and reports per ROHCG and TRO standards
- Create individualized recreation plans with the interdisciplinary team Ensure program information is accessible to clients and families
- Organize outings as clinically indicated
- Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the ROHCG, and policies of the Forensic Treatment Unit.
- Ensure a work environment that is conducive to the Royal’s Anti-Racism, Harassment, and Discrimination Free Workplace Policy.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Recreation/Leisure Studies or an Allied Health Degree with a post-grad Therapeutic Recreation diploma will be considered.
- Experience working with clients living with moderate to severe mental illness, substance use disorders, and concurrent disorders across the lifespan.
- Knowledge of the impact of diagnosis on leisure functioning.
- Ability to develop, plan and lead a variety of recreation therapy, leisure education and participation programs that are client-centered, evidence-based and outcome oriented.
- Experience conducting leisure assessments, developing and delivering therapeutic programs, evaluation of programs and services, documenting to reflect client-centered outcomes and progress, and facilitating links with the community.
- Experience working in a hospital, interdisciplinary setting is required
- Experience with provision of individual and group programming is required, including goal setting.
- Membership with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is an asset.
- Maintain workload measurement and data collection as required and input into the workload measurement system on a regular basis.
- Driver’s license class G: Class F license is an asset.
- English level A- in oral expression, oral comprehension, and preferred in reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
Salary Range:
43.64 to 51.60 per hour
