About the role
About the Opportunity: This position is responsible for the management and reporting of financial information, including analyzing data, preparing financial reconciliations, tax returns, and accounting records. Accounting Operations Manage day-to-day banking and cash management activities. Reconcile bank accounts, loan accounts, and other general ledger accounts. Process month-end and year-end journal entries and closing activities. Prepare and record payroll-related journal entries and reconcile payroll accounts (wages, benefits, and statutory deductions). Maintain and reconcile the Fixed Assets sub-ledger, track capital projects and update continuity schedules. Prepare intercompany reconciliations, identify mismatches, and coordinate with internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies promptly.
Compliance & Tax File monthly sales tax returns and analyze related accounts. Assist in the preparation of corporate tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations. Prepare and submit required filings to Statistics Canada (StatCan) in accordance with reporting requirements and deadlines. Support internal and external audit processes by preparing documentation and coordinating responses.
Process Improvement & Controls Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting policies. Streamline accounting functions and operations using financial systems and automation tools.
Team Collaboration & Leadership Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure financial processes align with business objectives. Communicate regularly with banks, credit card service providers, and external auditors.
Other Duties Perform ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required. Support finance-related projects and initiatives.
About You: 5-10 years of experience in full-cycle accounting, preferably in a senior or supervisory role. Experience with financial systems and ERP platforms (e.g., SAP). Post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation or enrollment in the CPA program is considered an asset. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights. Curious, open-minded problem solver. Skilled at both leading and executing detailed analysis. Collaborative communicator with the ability to communicate outside of finance. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and communication skills. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; working knowledge of PowerPoint and Word
