Cook's Helper Curriculum Developer

Job description and duties

Instructor responsibilities will include reviewing and updating the existing Cook’s Helper curriculum to ensure it reflects current industry standards, best practices in food service and local culinary practices. The instructor will revise lesson plans, learning activities, and assessment tools to improve clarity, accessibility, and alignment with program learning outcomes and workplace expectations. This work will involve incorporating updated food safety practices, practical kitchen skills, and employability competencies, while ensuring materials support diverse learners and align with college and industry requirements. The instructor will prepare updated instructional resources to strengthen the overall effectiveness of the training program.

Qualifications

An Inter-provincial Red Seal Certificate in the Professional Cook trade and Food Safe level 1 certification along with five years hospitality industry experience as a chef. Preferred certificates and experience include a Provincial Instructional Diploma (PID) and a minimum of three years post-secondary instructional experience teaching Professional Cook Level 1.

Required skills, abilities and knowledge include:

  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s license
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to excellence in teaching with experience in curriculum design
  • Knowledge and passion for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Effective cross-cultural communication skills, particularly with the local Indigenous communities
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and accurately in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent organizational, communication and facilitation skills
  • Intermediate computer skills (word processing, excel, email)
