Job Summary
Mandate:
Reporting to the Manager, Educational Technology Support, the Educational Technology Strategist provides orientation, training, technical support and best practices for use of learning technology to Faculty members, instructors, staff, and students. The position works collaboratively with other team members in the Learning and Teaching Innovation division to design, create, write and deliver concise, easy to understand solutions and training manuals/multimedia for the team and campus community.
Objectives:
This position is responsible for providing client support to both faculty and students and requires familiarity with providing remote client support and assistance for university-wide learning platforms. As such, the position requires familiarity with a variety of learning technology platforms, including Brightspace (or an equivalent LMS), WordPress, video conferencing and collaboration tools student engagement tools, online assessment tools and other technologies that are used for teaching and learning, and the ability to work with “administrator” access within these platforms. The role also develops and delivers workshops and training resources to support the adoption and successful integration of educational technologies. This is a heavy client support position, and the candidate must be ready to work with multiple deadlines and projects while maintaining a high quality of client service. Attention to detail and a willingness to add to the knowledge base is a necessary skill for this position.
This position may require evening and weekend hours.
Job Requirements
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree and at least 3 years of related experience supporting others in the use of technologies and learning are required. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may also be considered.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
- Knowledge of learning technology platforms, including Brightspace (or an equivalent LMS), WordPress, video conferencing and collaboration tools, student engagement tools, online assessment tools and other technologies that are used for teaching and learning
- Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment
- Understanding and capacity to support and uphold accessibility standards
- Ability to identify and analyze issues, develop solutions, and implement effective strategies to achieve desired outcomes
- Ability to collaborate, build and maintain positive relationships with diverse individuals and work effectively in a team environment
- Work respectfully with clients who are not always technology savvy
- Interpret and write technical documentation for a general audience
- Proficiency with media integration in a learning environment
- Positive attitude and interest in helping others and how each platform can be optimally used in different scenarios to support pedagogies
- Familiarity with the online learning environment—lecture capture, blended learning, and multi-access learning
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including training facilitation and presentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on coaching/motivational skills, enthusiasm and positive attitude
Preference will be given to candidates who have: ·
- Knowledge and understanding of instructional design as it relates to course delivery
- Knowledge and experience of informational technology, specifically supporting uptake and effective use by others
