About the role
Location: Montreal, QC (on-site with hybrid flexibility: minimum 3 days in-office)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Who We Are
Mecademic builds compact, precise, and innovative robotic automation solutions for the electronics and life sciences industries. Our ultra-compact robotic arms are used worldwide by OEMs, system integrators, and end-users for tasks requiring precision and reliability in automation.
As we expand globally, we are looking for a Junior Applications Specialist to join our multidisciplinary team. This role is for someone passionate about robotics, programming, and working at the intersection of technology, engineering, and customer success.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Lead Field Application Engineer, the Junior Applications Specialist plays a vital role in bridging technical know-how with cross-functional collaboration. You will be the go-to person for developing engaging demos, supporting the sales cycle with Proof-of-Concepts (PoCs), troubleshooting robotic applications, and ensuring our clients experience the full potential of Mecademic’s robotic solutions.
This is an on-site role based in Montreal, QC, due to the hands-on interaction required with our robots and demo equipment. You’ll have the flexibility to work from home up to two days per week.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Demo Development and Tradeshow Support
- Design and build compelling demo applications to showcase our robotic solutions at global trade shows.
- Use CAD software and programming expertise to create innovative, functional, and visually appealing demonstrations.
- Source materials and components for demos, often requiring coordination with vendors and distributors.
- Handle all pre-show preparations: crating, logistics, and technical documentation.
- Travel to tradeshows, install and operate demos, and provide technical support to sales teams and partners.
- Maintain and repair demo kits post-event, manage inventory, and improve demos based on user and team feedback.
Customer and Internal Support
- Answer advanced technical questions from customers and partners.
- Assist Field Application Engineers with complex cases requiring deeper technical knowledge.
- Create and document PoC projects that help customers evaluate Mecademic robots in their applications.
- Produce how-to videos, guides, whitepapers, and FAQs that support our partners and end-users.
- Contribute to the customer knowledge base by creating accessible and high-quality technical content.
Collaboration with Internal Teams
- Sales: Support automation feasibility assessments, build PoCs, and deliver technical training.
- Marketing & Product: Design demo solutions for campaigns and events, support the technical execution of product messaging.
- Engineering: Assist in testing new features, support internal automation projects, and help validate prototypes.
- Support: Assist in handling programming and integration tickets (especially Python-related).
Global Representation
- Travel internationally to represent Mecademic at trade fairs, partner events, and customer sites.
- Act as a technical ambassador—engaging with engineers, integrators, and clients to promote and support Mecademic’s robotic solutions.
Internal Automation Projects
- Develop and implement internal robotic and automation solutions to enhance efficiency and serve as proof points for customer-facing applications.
QUALIFICATIONS
Technical Skills
- Proficient in CAD software for mechanical and electrical design (e.g., SolidWorks).
- Strong programming ability, ideally in Python, with hands-on experience using APIs and version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Solid understanding of industrial automation concepts, including robot kinematics, controllers, sensors, and safety systems.
- Experience with robot simulators and PLCs is highly desirable.
Communication & Collaboration
- Excellent communicator—capable of translating complex technical information into accessible content.
- Customer-focused mindset with a collaborative spirit for cross-functional work.
Problem Solving & Creativity
- Proven ability to troubleshoot technical issues in high-pressure environments like live demos or client installations.
- Creative thinker who enjoys turning abstract requirements into working solutions.
Travel
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally for tradeshows and partner visits.
Organizational Skills
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Experience organizing logistics for technical events or equipment deployments is a plus.
Benefits
- Flexible hybrid work schedule (up to two remote days)
- Emphasis on work-life balance with a positive, team-driven culture
