About the role

Description The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Coordinator . This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Research Coordinator position will support the Brain Imaging in Moderate-late Preterm infants (BIMP) study, which is a research study on children born moderate to late preterm. This study assesses their brain development from birth to school age and the relationship with neurodevelopment at 21 months corrected age and at school age. We aim to find clues that help us to identify children born moderate to late preterm who will have problems with performance in school at a younger age.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Coordination and administration of research projects, including coordination of research ethics applications and modifications and maintaining contact with enrolled families
  • Developing data collection tools and research questionnaires, coordinating and conducting data collection
  • Screening and recruitment of study participants
  • Sending out questionnaires and following up on the completion of questionnaires
  • Scheduling and facilitating MRI appointments for 5-year-old children
  • Scheduling and facilitating appointments involving several child development specialists
  • Assisting with data cleaning and data analysis
  • Properly managing research files and documents ensuring secure data management as outlined in the protocols. Maintaining detailed and organized project documentation (both electronic and physical files; includes storing and managing the files)
  • Participating in the core research team meetings and serving as point of contact for team members
  • Writing annual reports
  • Processing payment of invoices
  • Completing assigned and scheduled tasks under own initiative with limited direct supervision. Managing own time effectively and ensuring the PI is kept informed of activities and progress of work
  • Establishing and maintaining effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor, team members, and with the campus community

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree required, MSc preferred in Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Neurosciences, Public Health or related areas
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years related experience of active involvement in research in an academic or clinical research setting, research institute or in an organization under the direction of a research scientist
  • Experience with quantitative data collection and analysis required
  • Familiarity with AHS systems (such as Connect Care) preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g. R, SPSS, Stata, SAS) and online questionnaire software (e.g. Qualtrics, RedCap) is a strong asset
  • Tri Council Policy Statement (TCPS 2) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training is an asset
  • Ability to plan and carry out research and administrative activities within a team environment required
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience working with research ethics applications is an asset
  • Experience in professional writing, preparing reports, and conducting literature reviews for the purposes of publications
