Context:
This role involves leading rail and transit projects, overseeing teams, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality projects while fostering innovation and client satisfaction. The Director of Rail/Transit will drive technical excellence, manage operations, and deliver the design and construction.
Missions/Main Duties:
- Project Leadership: Serve as the primary Project Manager or Team Leader, guiding rail and transit projects to meet client objectives, timelines, and budgets across various procurement models (e.g., Design-Bid-Build (DBB), Alliance, Progressive Design-Build (PDB), Public-Private Partnerships (P3)).
- Team Development: Mentor, train, and motivate professional staff to build a high-performing rail and transit team, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation, accountability, and effective communication to address complex infrastructure challenges.
- Operational Management: Oversee daily project operations, including task assignments, scheduling, and quality reviews, ensuring deliverables meet established standards and align with the selected procurement model’s requirements.
- Technical Excellence: Supervise the preparation of technical reports and documentation, ensuring adherence to quality assurance processes and industry standards.
- Business Development: Support proposal development by defining project methodologies, schedules, and budgets, while actively pursuing new opportunities with provincial, regional, and municipal clients.
- Project Monitoring: Define program requirements, monitor deliverables for compliance, and collaborate with project engineers and discipline leads to develop budgets, schedules, and action plans.
- Risk Management: Address potential cost overruns, delays, or scope changes by developing and implementing corrective action plans, keeping clients and management informed.
- Industry Awareness: Stay current on trends, advancements, and regulations in rail and transit engineering to deliver cutting-edge solutions and maintain technical expertise.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Foster a culture of collaboration by promoting trust, mutual respect, and open communication among project teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with project goals and procurement model requirements.
- Additional Duties: Perform other relevant tasks as required to support project success and organizational goals.
Profile/Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- License: Must be a Registered Professional Engineer in Canada.
- Experience: Minimum of 15 years of relevant technical/construction experience, including at least 5 years in technical/construction leadership and project delivery with Government Agencies.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to train, mentor, and lead a team of skilled professionals.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of rail and transit engineering, including provincial and municipal standards, guidelines, and stakeholder requirements.
- Regulatory Expertise: Thorough understanding of industry regulations and practices to ensure compliance and project success.
