Psychologist (Regular Part-Time 0.4 FTE) - Inpatient Complex Continuing Care

Our Complex Continuing Care (CCC) team provides intensive in-patient rehabilitation services to clients who require complex physical and psychosocial care. Referrals include clients with musculoskeletal, developmental and neuromotor conditions, as well as new medical and mental health diagnoses, and sudden onset life-altering events including major trauma, oncology diagnoses, spinal cord injuries, and burns. Our psychosocial care focuses on supporting clients, and their families, process new diagnoses and fully engage in the rehabilitation program.
The CCC program is set up to help clients and families acquire the skills and support services required to transition to life in the community. The psychologist will be a key player in the multidisciplinary team whose goal is to provide rehabilitation services in an inclusive and culturally sensitive manner, recognizing each client’s unique needs.
Typical concerns that you would encounter in the CCC rehabilitation setting include the need to support clients and their families:
- Readiness to engage in therapy
- Participation in the rehabilitation program
- Understanding of diagnosis and impact on everyday life
- Coping with medical trauma or client’s history of trauma
- Transition to community services
- The Psychologist offers a complete range of psychological services including assessment, intervention/psychotherapy, consultation, education, training, and team support
- In collaboration with clients, caregivers and the interdisciplinary team, works collaboratively to provide client and family-centred care which is goal directed, evidence based and outcome oriented
- Supports and respects the client/family’s rights to make decisions based on their own values, beliefs and experiences
- Conducts psychological interventions in both group and individual formats
- Has strong clinical formulation skills and implements individualized treatment plans based on assessed needs in conjunction with the interprofessional team
- Employs a variety of intervention approaches to support client needs and emphasizes trauma specific interventions where indicated
- Provides appropriate education and training sessions to interprofessional team
- Documents on client charts and completes accurate workload statistics
- Supervises psychology practicum and internship students
- Engages in Program Development and supports program evaluation
- Demonstrates accountability for own psychology practice by adhering to established professional practice standards and hospital policies
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices
Other Requirements:
- Some evening & weekend work may be required
- Flexibility to work across other inpatient units
- Demonstrates ability to effectively and efficiently manage fluctuating clinical responsibilities
Qualifications:
- PhD in Psychology and Registration (or eligible for registration) with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario required, with declared competencies in Clinical Psychology with children and adolescents. Declared competency with families would be an asset, as would be declared competencies in the areas of Rehabilitation Psychology and/or Health Psychology
- Knowledge and application of individual and group based interventions required
- Knowledge and experience of trauma-informed interventions (or willingness to obtain training in these interventions) is required
- Experience working with individuals with complex medical conditions and/or disabilities an asset
