Your Opportunity

We are actively seeking a Senior Project Architect working on the leading edge of design computing. As part of the Regional Design Computing Leadership Team, you will lead the transformational integration of design computing into our practice—advancing strategy and adoption of advanced visualization, computational and parametric design, generative design, and AI to deliver efficient, elegant project outcomes.

This position can be located in any major Canadian Stantec location with a Buildings presence.

Regional Design Computing Leadership Responsibilities

  • Co-develop the regional vision and strategy with the Design Computing Discipline Lead; translate it into standards, best practices, and workflows.
  • Lead regional digital transformation and cultural change using proven change‑management practices.
  • Establish documentation, QC, and delivery standards for computational and generative design processes.
  • Identify and mentor emerging leaders; create and deliver a training and professional‑development roadmap.
  • Collaborate with Buildings & Stantec Innovation teams to evaluate and apply technologies that enhance design and documentation.
  • Work closely with the Regional Business Lead to target problems where design computing creates measurable value; partner with the Regional Design Lead and the Regional Carbon & Climate Lead as the Design Pillars.

Project Focus

  • Responsible for managing complex tasks on multiple, large scope, highly complex projects.
  • Effectively participates and helps to win work in interviews for potential projects.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs the work throughout the life of the project to successfully deliver the project to the client.
  • Keeps the Principal in Charge informed of progress on project expectations, deadlines, and deliverables and understands the limits of the decision-making responsibilities of the role and respects the boundaries of the Principal in Charge’s responsibilities.
  • Leads the client and project team to assure that the project design meets the client budget, schedule, program, and design intent.
  • Assists in the negotiation and development of project agreements.
  • Develop and manage project budget, schedule, and overall work plan to realize target financial performance.
  • Mentors intern architects and motivates project teams.
  • Assures that Project Management Framework tasks are timely completed and properly documented.
  • Leads project coordination and owner/site meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor and sub-contractors.
  • Manages and tracks change orders, applications for payment by contractors and other contractual modifications impacting budget and schedule.
  • Works with Program Manager in determining project staffing needs and recommending personnel.
  • Directs client invoicing and effectively manages collections.
  • Achieve utilization target of 80%.
  • Contribute to marketing and business development goals, including 20% internal cross‑selling initiatives.

People Leadership

  • Drive resource management, career development, engagement, succession planning, coaching, mentoring, and leadership development across the Region.
  • Lead industry presence through talks/publications and partner with Marketing/PR on articles and white papers (target: ≥1 talk and ≥1 publication/year; contribute posts to corporate channels).
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop junior design computing staff, fostering their growth as emerging leaders in computational design, visualization, and digital delivery. Provide ongoing coaching and support to help team members advance their technical skills and professional capabilities.
  • Assist in leading BC technology teams by partnering with senior technical staff and discipline leaders to set direction, share best practices, and drive innovation across our regional and sector-based design computing groups. Champion a collaborative culture that encourages knowledge sharing, experimentation, and continuous improvement.

Financial Management

  • Provide input on the annual design computing budget allocation, manage the allocation, and provide budget reviews; coordinate sponsorships and memberships aligned to the mandate.
  • Demonstrate and communicate ROI for technology implementations to business leaders.

Enhance Our Practice

  • Partner with the Regional Digital Delivery Lead (RDDL) to drive technology excellence across the region.
  • Partner with DLs, SLs, RBLs, and RGLs to build internal awareness and market our design computing expertise; strengthen ties with other Business Lines/Sectors to cross‑pollinate work and create new opportunities.
  • Advance inclusion and diversity practices and support regional strategic growth initiatives.
  • Track proposals with design‑computing differentiators and associated win rate; sponsor two Greenlight pilots per year tied to DC workloads.

Capabilities and Credentials

  • Progressive design professional with strong knowledge of advanced visualization and computational design technologies, including Revit and Rhino; parametric design (Dynamo, Grasshopper); data/3D visualization (Power BI, Tableau); and multi‑ variable optimization using Machine Learning and AI.
  • Skilled communicator who can explain design‑ technology concepts to technical and non‑ technical audiences; able to tell the story of design computing’s impact on design quality and outcomes.
  • Significant hands‑ on experience with computational and generative design software and change‑ management best practices.
  • Able to work at organizational scale across the Buildings Operating Unit and with multi‑ disciplinary teams.
  • Strong collaborator with excellent people skills; ability to travel across North America.
  • Extensive project experience supports in the ability to win work during proposal response.
  • Capable of simultaneously supporting one or more Principal’s in Charge on multiple projects.
  • Excellent understanding of accessibility codes, life-safety codes, building construction systems, means and methods, materials, and industry associated standards.
  • Able to maintain and forward the development of the design concept.
  • Offers and supports creative technical design and detailing decisions that are in line with project goals and understands their impact on cost, construction, sustainability, and other factors.
  • Understands and leads the integration of code, zoning, market specific best practices and other issues into the project.
  • Adheres to established project sustainability requirements.
  • Has the ability to follow verbal and written instructions to revise, develop and produce plans, elevations, and details appropriately.
  • Reviews, marks-up and delivers document corrections to team for implementation.
  • Ability to distribute work to project team.
  • Proactively takes appropriate action without requiring continued direction or guidance.
  • Effectively manages multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Team player with the client, entire project team and contractor.
  • Excellent negotiator and communicator.
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD; Prefer experience with Adobe, Creative Suite, Newforma, Rhino, SketchUP.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field focused on computational design technologies.
  • A minimum of 10 years of A/E practice experience leading application of digital technology in design is preferred.
  • Licensed design professional (Registered Architect or Engineer) or actively pursuing licensure; on a pathway to project leadership is preferred
