About the role
Job Description
What is the Opportunity?
We are seeking a strategic Director, Business Management to lead our 3rd Party Supplier Management function and drive the delivery of our Target State business management platform. This is a pivotal role that sits at the intersection of technology and business operations, with the unique opportunity to shape how Royal Bank of Canada manages vendor relationships, contracts, and supplier ecosystems at a global scale. You will serve as the Product Owner for a transformative initiative that modernizes our approach to supplier contract management, license management, invoice management, and payment processing—moving from fragmented, manual processes to an integrated, automated system that delivers both operational excellence and strategic insights. This role offers the chance to directly impact business outcomes by reducing operational risk, improving efficiency, and enabling data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.
What will you do?
- In this role, you will serve as Product Owner for our 3rd Party Supplier Management Target State, taking end-to-end accountability for translating business requirements into platform capabilities and ensuring successful delivery.
- You'll articulate and prioritize required capabilities based on business impact and feasibility, then consult and advise on the program roadmap to ensure delivery aligns with these priorities and benefits realization.
- You will assess the impact of proposed changes on all aspects of 3rd party supplier activities, financial forecasting of supplier fees, invoice and payment management, license management, and data governance.
- A critical part of your mandate is coordinating 3rd Party Supplier Managers across our business to engage with the transformation program, helping them understand new solutions and articulate how they create business value.
- You will serve as the primary advocate for the program, lobbying on behalf of its interests with key dependency owners across Procurement, Legal, Operational Risk, Supplier Risk Management, and Technology & Operations.
- You'll be the public face of the initiative—vocal, visible, and committed to its success—making necessary decisions as requested by the Program Manager and Steering Committee.
- Beyond transformation, you will oversee and coordinate business-as-usual 3rd Party Supplier Management activities to drive consistency, transparency, and control across the function. This includes ensuring that contract data quality remains high at source, maintaining effective supplier relationships, and implementing process improvements that maximize efficiency while meeting regulatory and audit requirements.
What do you need to succeed?
- You will bring 10+ years of progressive experience in business management, business process optimization, or business transformation roles, ideally within financial services or similarly regulated environments.
- Proven experience managing large-scale change programs, coordinating across multiple functions, and delivering measurable business outcomes is essential. You need strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to decompose complex business challenges and design integrated solutions that address root causes rather than symptoms.
- Leadership capabilities are non-negotiable: you must be able to influence and guide senior stakeholders, build and motivate teams, and communicate complex ideas clearly to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise.
- You should have solid experience with business process design and workflow optimization, understand how enterprise IT systems support business operations, and be comfortable translating between business requirements and technical solutions. Experience with supplier or vendor management, procurement operations, or contract lifecycle management is important.
- You'll need strong project and program management discipline, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, track progress against objectives, and ensure stakeholder engagement throughout the lifecycle of the initiative.
- You should bring strategic thinking skills—the ability to see beyond day-to-day execution to understand how decisions impact long-term business capability and competitive advantage.
- We need a director-level leader with deep experience managing complex business transformation initiatives and stakeholder ecosystems.
- You should bring demonstrated success in business process optimization, a strong understanding of IT systems and their business applications, and the ability to articulate strategic vision while driving pragmatic execution.
- You must be a skilled communicator who can influence at senior levels, navigate competing priorities across functions, and build consensus among diverse stakeholder groups including Procurement, Legal, Operational Risk, and Finance. Ideally, you have exposure to supplier management, contract administration, or related procurement functions, and you understand the regulatory and audit requirements that govern enterprise procurement.
- Above all, we're looking for someone who is genuinely committed to modernizing business processes, who thrives in complexity, and who has the leadership credibility to champion transformative change.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with automation technologies or process automation tools, familiarity with third-party software licensing models and vendor management best practices,
- Exposure to AI-enabled insights and analytics capabilities that drive business intelligence,
- Knowledge of banking or financial services regulatory requirements related to vendor management and third-party risk, experience working with shared services or centralized support functions, or a background in finance or procurement that has given you insight into supplier ecosystems and total cost of ownership optimization.
What's in it for you?
This is a leadership role with meaningful visibility and impact. You'll have the opportunity to drive enterprise-wide transformation in how we manage supplier relationships and third-party spend—a critical capability for a global financial institution.
- You'll work with senior stakeholders across the bank and have direct influence over strategic decisions.
- You'll develop expertise in modern business management platforms and positioning yourself as a leader in digital business transformation.
- Additionally, you'll benefit from the collaborative environment at RBC, access to professional development resources, and the satisfaction that comes from modernizing legacy processes and improving operational outcomes for the entire organization.
- This role offers the platform to demonstrate executive-level capability and to build a track record of successful, large-scale transformation that can shape your career trajectory.
