Job Description

The mechanical design engineer is responsible for designing advanced mechanical systems and developing innovative products. He oversees all aspects of assigned design projects. In collaboration with internal and external teams, he must determine the product's inputs, constraints, requirements, and standards. This includes assembling prototypes ranging from small components to large assemblies.

Role and responsibilities

  • Design mechanical parts and assemblies for various mechanical systems using 3D CAD software.
  • Ensure products are designed in compliance with local code.
  • Preparation of 2D mechanical drawings using SolidWorks such as welding, machined, and sheet metal drawings
  • Selecting components and materials to meet the functional and aesthetic design requirements.
  • Prepare Bills of Materials for internal production line and external clients
  • Work with vendors to review designs and selection of components.
  • Support Production to troubleshoot assembly and fabrication problems.
  • Work with Technical Support to find solutions on site installations.
  • Support technical writers in the creation of technical documentation.
  • Design transfer to Product Engineer and production personnel, including training activities.
  • Control the TVC cost of the product.
  • All other related tasks are considered part of the role and may be assigned as needed.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in product development.
  • Member of the OIQ.
  • Capable of self-management and working under tight-timelines and dynamic environment.
  • Technical aptitude with hands-on approach to engineering.
  • Knowledge of engineering and manufacturing practices such as machining, welding, bending, laser cut, ect.
  • Proficient skills in 3D design using SolidWorks are essential.
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of basic mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience in elevators and/or lifting devices are considered an asset.
  • Understanding of Geometric Tolerancing & Dimensioning (GD&T).
  • Detailed oriented and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent time management skills, able to manage competing priorities.
  • Master the French and English language (customers from the United States).
