Fitter II
Regular Full-Time ($33.51/hour – 2024 Rates) Pay Grade 5
Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən Peoples, notably the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, the District of Oak Bay is committed to recognizing and celebrating their historic and ongoing connection to these lands and waters.
The District of Oak Bay is a picturesque seaside community located within the Greater Victoria Region, with a population of +18,000. Are you a skilled tradesperson with a passion for infrastructure? As a Fitter II, you’ll be on the front lines of ensuring a reliable water supply in Oak Bay. This hands-on role offers an opportunity to install water meters, repair hydrants, and contribute to essential infrastructure projects. This temporary full-time role is anticipated to be up to seven months in duration.
The Fitter II performs skilled manual work in the maintenance, construction and installation of hydrants, water meters, water services, mains and fittings. An employee in this classification installs water service and meters of varying sizes, takes and records meter readings and performs specialized maintenance and testing on hydrants, valves, meters, mains, hydrants and fittings. Oral and written assignments, sometimes accompanied by plans and sketches, are received from a superior who may review the completed tasks and/or the associated records for conformance with established standards, or may check the work in progress.
Our ideal candidate has completed Grade 10, has one year of experience at the Fitter I or Meter Reader level (or equivalent exposure to water distribution system work), Water Distribution Level I Certification, plus a valid and subsisting BC Driver’s License.
