The Opportunity:

Location: Halifax, NS

We are currently seeking a Co-op, Financial Reporting student for the Fall 2026 term (September 7 - December 18) within our Corporate External Reporting team. This 16-week opportunity provides hands-on experience in consolidations and the financial reporting process within a professional finance environment. During your work term, you will collaborate with professionals across the organization, building a strong foundation in accounting and financial analysis.

What you’ll do:

As a co-op student, you’ll contribute to financial reporting and consolidation processes while strengthening your technical and analytical skills, essential for a career in finance or accounting. This includes:

  • Contribute to the preparation of sections of Emera’s quarterly financial statements and MD&A
  • Participate in month-end consolidation processes, including preparing intercompany reconciliations and variance analysis reporting
  • Assist with quarterly deliverables such as government reports and coordination with other departments to gather and provide information
  • Complete ad hoc tasks and projects as needed to support the Financial Reporting team

Work term outcomes:

By the end of the work-term, you will have:

  • Gained an intermediate understanding of financial consolidations and corporate reporting processes
  • Developed practical experience preparing components of quarterly financial statements and MD&A
  • Built an understanding of Emera’s corporate structure and how its affiliated companies operate
  • Enhanced your analytical, technical, and communication skills within a professional finance environment

Who you are:

You’re a proactive, detail-oriented student in your 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance, with a desire to grow your knowledge and contribute to meaningful financial work.

You bring:

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • A high level of motivation, attention to detail, and analytical thinking
  • Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Previous accounting experience is considered an asset but not a requirement.
