About the role

Job Title: Regional Sport Consultant - Fundy Region

Reports to: Manager of Regional and Community Sport Development

Employment Status: Full-time, salaried

Working Conditions: Hybrid schedule (WFH two days a week). Located in the Regional Office for the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. Travel required, some off-site and after-hours meetings required.

Job Summary: The Regional Sport Consultant collaborates with community sport organizations, provincial sport organizations, and community groups to identify, develop, and support the continuation and creation of sustainable, quality, sport opportunities in the region.

Entry Level Criteria:

  • Education: Undergraduate/post-secondary degree in Kinesiology, Sport Administration, Sport Management, Health & Human Performance, Physical Education, Recreation Management or equivalent work experience in the field of coaching or administrating sport at the provincial or national level.

  • A working knowledge of the Canadian and Nova Scotia sport systems and their components.

  • Proven understanding of sport development and programming at the community level.

  • Technical Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, facilitation, social media management.

  • Valid license and reliable transportation due to required travel around the region.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Community Sport Consultations

  • Support community sport organizations in the designated region and assist with developing:
    • Participation plans

    • Organizational Effectiveness

    • Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion programming

    • Funding opportunities

    • Navigating the Provincial Sport System

Regional Sport Convener

  • Work closely with the Manager of Regional and Community Sport Development and Regional Manager for the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage to ensure awareness and access for community sport organizations to participate in available funding opportunities

  • Bring sport partners together to determine the effective way to develop sport opportunities and increase participation, including targeted populations

  • Manage a database of community sport organizations and stakeholders to communicate Sport Nova Scotia programs/services and other important sport system messages on a regular basis

  • Communication of local, regional, and provincial events and opportunities to community sport organizations and stakeholders (general and targeted).

  • Coordinate, chair, or attend local and regional meetings as required

Provincial Sport Organizations - Community Sport Organizations Connections

  • Facilitate strong working relationships between community sport organizations and provincial sport organizations

  • Provide information to non-traditional partners to align to Long Term Development of Sport and connection to the provincial sport organizations

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

  • Lead and support coordination with community sport, that focuses on partnerships, alignment of needs, assets and resources to make sport more accessible to all in our communities.

Funding Coordination

  • Consult and navigate on funding opportunities such as KidSport, Jumpstart, Sport Fund, Sport Fund - EDI and Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage funding programs.

  • Navigate additional funding opportunities to increase the sport dollars available to community sport organizations and stakeholders

  • Act as Chair of the Regional Sport Fund Committee managing Sport Fund applications, committee selection and orientation of members, scoring tools, applicant communication, terms and conditions letter and reporting

Regional Sport Navigator

  • Serve as first point of contact for Sport Nova Scotia programs and services in the designated region

  • Navigate and direct individual coaches and organizations around coach education needs

  • Lead community sport forums as directed

Administration

  • Manage work plan, tracking tool, expenses, lieu, vacation

  • Meet Bilateral reporting requirements

  • Manage Project tasks (committee communication/minutes/actions/timelines/updates/ evaluation/etc.)

  • Follow established and approved financial control systems including reconciliations, expense claim reports, contractual arrangements and others

Team Participation

  • Build and maintain effective and collaborative networks and relationships with colleagues and stakeholders

  • Participate regularly in Sport Nova Scotia staff meetings, events, and staff training
