This is recreation work that involves instructing/facilitating programs and services, preparing individual program plans and promoting interest and encouraging participation in program activity. Duties are performed within established guidelines but independent action and initiative is exercised on individual aspects of the programs. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by a supervisor in terms of effectiveness of instruction, services provided and conformance to established practices.

Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Instructs, facilitates and participates with the individual program delivery for a variety of recreation programs, and services within established standards and guidelines.
  • Prepares individual program plans for review by a supervisor for assigned recreation programs and services.
  • Provides referrals to community resources within established guidelines.
  • Represents the Department and the City in a positive, professional and customer friendly manner.
  • Sets up equipment necessary for assigned programs and service and stores equipment safely following the end of a program or service.
  • Maintain routine records, reports and enters program data.
  • Drafts promotional material for review and approval by a supervisor.
  • Provides direction and instruction to other members of the work unit and/or program contractors and aids others in the department.
  • Enforces rules and regulations and ensures required standards of behavior and safety in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • 6 months full time equivalent experience working with Youth in a recreation or related setting
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training (minimum 8 hours)
  • Minimum of two post-secondary courses related to Youth programs and services
  • Standard First Aid
  • Food Safe
  • Class 4 Drivers License

Candidates must be available for the Fall Shift Schedule Sept- Dec

  • Tuesday 2:45-7:15 pm
  • Wednesday 2:45-7:45 pm
  • Friday 2:45-9:15 pm
  • Saturday 2:45-9:15 pm
