Job Description: The Sun Life Application Operation Services organization’s (AOS) focus is to provide a positive digital user experience that is seamless, available, and valuable for our Canadian and global business partners and clients by delivering the support and quality that ensures our technologies are fully functional, secure, resilient, and highly stable. This Support Engineer role is on the Data & Analytics Operations team and is responsible for maintaining and supporting Sun Life’s data in multiple Data Warehouses as well as creating reports and universes for our business partners using different BI applications and support the ingestion processes in several data integration applications.

The candidate must work well within a dynamic environment and have an ability to understand applications and handle multiple requests and priorities. We value collaborative team players who will use their problem solving and analytical skills to maintain and improve application stability and performance to satisfy client and business objectives

In this role, the candidate will join a 24/7 team which will require them to be on call on a rotational basis overnight. Candidates will be required to secure Reliability Status Clearance, which requires that they have lived and worked in Canada for the past 5 consecutive years as well as Enhanced Background Check due to the nature of the restricted data in our repositories.   • We are looking for a candidate with deep curiosity, a passion for analytics to not only resolve issues, but to prevent them from happening in the future.

  • Support several Data Warehouses (DW), from data ingestion to data consumption

  • Candidate must understand the code logic to analyze and troubleshoot data consumption issues for Sun Life clients as well as be able to fix or enhance code on a daily basis

  • Mainframe skills

  • TSO, ZEKE, JCL, COBOL

  • Informatica skills

  • ETL PowerCenter, IDMC (Informatica Cloud)

  • Master Data Management (MDM)

  • Business Intelligence(BI)solutions

  • Support existing reporting and universes as well as creating or enhancing new reports which requires a background/experience in SQL writing

  • Experience with SAP Tools (Crystal, Universe Design)

  • Respond to incident, problem and change management policies and processes

  • Knowledge of ITIL is an asset

  • Create and maintain superb technical documentation that will help support our poly-skilled team

  • Work collaboratively with Project Teams, Operation teams and vendors to schedule implementation of changes to meet overall schedule of the project and mitigate risk of customer experience impacts due to changes

  • Monitor our environments to identify and implement operational improvements

  • Participate in rotational on-call 24/7 operational support, including after hours support on a rotational basis

Preferred Skills (heading) / Compétences Particulières (titre)

  • Computer Science degree or certificate, or equivalent, supplemental training
  • 3 - 5 years hand-on experience working as an IT Application/Technical support analyst
  • 3+ years working in a DW/BI environment
  • Mainframe development experience using TSO, ZEKE, JCL, COBOL
  • Experience with Business Intelligence(BI)solutions: SAP Tools
  • Knowledge of Business Objects Universe Designer and Web Intelligence
  • Experience with change management and incident management processes
  • Experience in On-call support and trouble shooting
  • Experience with Databases: Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, flat files
  • A drive to understand our business partners, clients and the business direction
  • Demonstrated level of initiative and judgement in order to organize and prioritize tasks, workload and projects
  • Ability to work as part of a virtual team to achieve tangible results, and ability to manage and resolve conflict
  • Written communication is clear and concise
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
