##Job Information

The Territorial Specialist, Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), leads the development and delivery of a territory wide MAiD service that ensures safe, compassionate, and equitable access for residents across the Northwest Territories. Based in Yellowknife, this role provides expert case management, supports clients and families throughout the MAiD process, advises healthcare providers, and advances system wide planning, evaluation, and education. Working collaboratively with partners across NTHSSA, HRHSSA, TCSA, and DHSS, the Specialist champions culturally safe, trauma informed care and plays a key role in shaping the future of MAiD services in the NWT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of MAiD services across the territory.
  • Provide case management and follow up for individuals seeking information or accessing MAiD.
  • Serve as a resource for clients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Ensure alignment with the Criminal Code of Canada, NWT legislation, and DHSS MAiD Interim Guidelines.
  • Promote equitable, respectful, and safe MAiD care throughout the NWT.
  • Collaborate with territorial partners and senior leadership to implement and expand MAiD services.
  • Apply project management, evaluation, and change management approaches to system development.
  • Prepare the system for national MAiD changes, including new eligibility categories.
  • Provide mentorship, oversight, and occasional acting leadership within Continuing Care.
  • Navigate sensitive client situations with professionalism, empathy, and cultural humility.
  • Uphold culturally safe, trauma informed practices that honour Indigenous experiences and histories.
  • Will be required to meet with clients in a clinical setting or home visit and assist practitioner during MAID provisions

Key Qualifications

  • A Baccalaureate of Nursing AND 10 years of recent experience in a clinical health care setting

OR

  • A Masters of Nursing AND a minimum of 5 years of recent experience in a clinical health care setting
