Key Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive client intake assessments, mental health assessments, and psychosocial assessments. Assess clients’ psychological, emotional, behavioural, interpersonal, and mental health concerns. Develop individualized psychotherapy and treatment plans based on assessment findings and client needs. Provide evidence-based psychotherapy interventions using appropriate therapeutic modalities. Establish therapeutic relationships that support client growth, healing, coping skills, emotional regulation, behavioural change, and overall well-being. Assist clients in identifying treatment goals and developing strategies to achieve desired outcomes. Monitor, evaluate, and adjust treatment plans based on client progress, treatment outcomes, and changing needs. Provide individual psychotherapy services for a broad range of mental health conditions and concerns. Provide couples, family, and group therapy services where appropriate and within scope of practice. Support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, and life transitions. Assist clients in developing coping strategies, emotional regulation techniques, resilience, and self-management skills. Conduct risk assessments related to suicide, self-harm, violence, abuse, and other client safety concerns. Develop and implement safety plans and crisis intervention plans when required. Provide crisis support and stabilization within the scope of practice. Maintain accurate, complete, and timely clinical documentation, treatment notes, and client records. Prepare clinical reports, treatment summaries, and supporting documentation as required. Maintain client confidentiality and privacy in accordance with applicable legislation, professional standards, and organizational policies. Perform duties consistent with the scope of practice of a Registered Psychotherapist. Identify, escalate, and report concerns related to client safety, ethical practice, professional conduct, or non-compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. Adapt communication skills to provide information, guidance, and health education to diverse client populations. Support clients in implementing and modifying their treatment plans. Evaluate client responses to treatment and modify interventions to achieve established therapeutic goals. Record and report clinical activities in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory college requirements. In consultation with the Client’s healthcare team, provide referrals to community specialists and additional support services when indicated. Review consultation notes from community providers and integrate recommendations into client care as appropriate. Support and utilize health technology initiatives implemented by the Client, including electronic medical records (EMR) and provincial electronic health records where available. Collaborate with the Client’s healthcare manager to provide input and support strategic planning related to mental health service delivery. Communicate in a timely manner with healthcare professionals regarding client care and treatment progress. Attend required meetings and teleconferences related to healthcare service delivery, policies, and clinical updates. Arrange for qualified Registered Psychotherapist coverage during planned absences. Maintain and monitor an email account for communication with Supply Ontario and the Client. Comply with all security requirements of the Client’s facility or facilities.

Qualifications and Experience

Be in good standing and hold a valid licence issued by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) to practice as a Registered Psychotherapist within the required scope of work. Maintain valid registration with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario throughout the term of employment, with no restrictions on practice and no active disciplinary proceedings. Demonstrate expertise and assessment skills to gather, interpret, and utilize client information to support clinical decision-making and treatment planning. Demonstrate leadership skills to coordinate and deliver psychotherapy services, support quality improvement initiatives, and collaborate with healthcare professionals, partners, and internal and external stakeholders. Possess knowledge of professional practice standards, best practice guidelines, psychotherapy theories, and applicable legislation, including but not limited to the Health Care Consent Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), Ontario Hospitals Act, Child and Family Services Act (CFSA), Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), and other relevant legislation. Possess knowledge of health promotion, prevention, evidence-based practice, and current psychotherapy treatment modalities. Demonstrate knowledge of mental health and addiction treatment approaches, with experience supporting individuals experiencing addictions. Have experience working with individuals experiencing mental health concerns. Have experience supporting the mental health needs of diverse client populations, including youth and adults. Have experience providing mental health services to marginalized and diverse populations, including individuals who have experienced trauma.
