Your Opportunity:
Skypointe 2 Complex Mental Health Rehabilitation Program is a unique new 32 bed Addiction and Mental Health Continuing Care unit located in the community of Skyview in Calgary opened November 2022. You will have the opportunity to work with a group of dynamic multidisciplinary professionals supporting clients in their rehabilitation and recovery journey in collaboration with our community partner AgeCare. The facility offers a woodworking shop, craft areas, library, group facilitation, quiet rooms and a fitness area to support the clients. Its rewarding being part of supporting individuals maintaining their psychiatric stability while assisting them to build skills required to reintegrate into the community. As the Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse you will support clients living at Skypointe II in the Complex Mental Health and Addiction Rehabilitation Program. Utilizing principles the principals learned at AHS you will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team, peace officers, as well as partnering agency staff members to provide care to clients both on site and in the community. Each member works independently with limited review, consultation, and evaluation. Within the facility, there are other programs (Long-Term Care/Supportive Living/Hospice) operating. These programs may be sharing space and accessing programming individually and collaboratively. You will be attending regular consultation/case conferences to provide updates on clients, suggest and implement treatment plans and interventions and will attend psychiatry, medical, and other appointments with clients and provide/supervise/observe clients taking their oral and injectable medications as required and monitor for side effects. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with Recovery Alberta /UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
RPNs – Active or eligible registration with CRPNA College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta. 2 year of Addiction and Mental Health experience within the last 5 years. Understanding of Alberta Mental Health Act – Community Treatment Orders and other governing standards/ legislation for practice. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training (NVCI) certification. Experience in various risk assessment i.e. Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, violent risk. Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in the last 5 years in an acute/community mental health setting. Understanding of the DSM-5 with demonstrated knowledge of mental health diagnosis, symptomatology and therapeutic treatment modalities/interventions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in computers. Knowledge of verbal de-escalation and intervention techniques. Group facilitation skills and experience in mental health/addiction. Familiarity of Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Patient and Family Centered Care, Recovery Oriented practice, and an ability to engage with difficult to serve populations. Experience in charge nurse role and able to work with minimal supervision in a professional manner.
