Job Title: Senior Principle Solution Architect - Lifecycle and Modernization

Our Platform Modernization Organizationdrives the lifecycle management and continuous modernization of compute, database, storage, and network infrastructure. We treat lifecycle management as a strategic lever to enhance systems, deliver measurable value for internal and external customers, protect the business, and safeguard our reputation.

By leveraging modern technology and advanced tooling, we streamline operations, minimize downtime, and strengthen system reliability. With a relentless focus on continuous improvement, we enable the organization to adapt quickly to evolving demands, ensuring scalable, secure, and future-ready platforms that power business success and customer satisfaction.

Your Impact:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Solution Architect specializing in lifecycle management and modernization of legacy platforms, focusing on aging hardware for server, storage, and network systems, operating systems at or nearing End of Support Life (EOSL), and legacy applications. The ideal candidate will excel in assessing, planning, and executing strategies to extend the life of legacy infrastructure and applications while transitioning to modern, efficient, and scalable solutions, emphasizing on-premises and hybrid environments. This role involves developing strategies and patterns to derisk and migrate legacy applications, as well as building comprehensive lifecycle heatmaps and forward-looking roadmaps to guide modernization efforts. The architect will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver initiatives that align with business goals, reduce technical debt, and enhance operational efficiency.

As a Principal Architect, you will:

  • Oversee full lifecycle management of legacy platforms, including aging server/storage/network hardware, EOSL operating systems, and legacy applications.
  • Develop and maintain lifecycle heatmaps and modernization roadmaps to visualize risks and prioritize upgrades.
  • Design modernization strategies for legacy hardware (e.g., servers, storage arrays, switches), OS (e.g., Windows Server 2008, Solaris), and applications (e.g., monolithic to microservices).
  • Create migration and derisking strategies using architectural patterns like strangler pattern, containerization, and API gateways.
  • Assess legacy systems to identify risks, inefficiencies, and obsolescence, addressing hardware degradation and EOSL constraints.
  • Provide technical leadership in adopting modern architectures (e.g., hyper-converged infrastructure, SDN) and frameworks.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate legacy challenges into actionable modernization plans with minimal disruption.
  • Architect integration and migration strategies including data migration, API development, and hybrid infrastructure setups.

What you need to succeed:

  • 7+ years in solution architecture or systems engineering, with 3+ years focused on lifecycle management and modernization of legacy hardware, EOSL operating systems, and legacy applications.
  • Expertise in modernizing aging platforms including servers, EMC Clariion storage arrays, and Cisco Catalyst 6500 switches; OS such as Windows Server 2008/2012, AIX, HP-UX; and COBOL-based applications.
  • Proficient in developing lifecycle heatmaps and modernization roadmaps to guide infrastructure upgrades.
  • Strong knowledge of on-premises infrastructure, virtualization (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), software-defined solutions, and modernization patterns (e.g., microservices, containerization).
  • Experienced in hardware lifecycle management including refresh cycles, vendor negotiations, and end-of-life planning.
  • Familiar with DevOps tools, security frameworks, and compliance standards relevant to legacy modernization.
  • Skilled communicator able to convey complex strategies and roadmaps to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Certifications such as TOGAF, CCDE, VCP, or Red Hat Certified Architect are considered a strong asset.
