ARE YOU THE ONE WE’RE LOOKING FOR?

In this exciting role in Facility Services, you will assist management in achieving the efficient operation through reliable performance of plumbing while observing municipal policies and security and safety practices. You must have the ability to exercise sound technical judgement in ensuring the compliance with, and the interpretation and application of relevant bylaws, codes and regulations while being tactful, firm, courteous and diplomatic in dealing with the public. You will establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, tradesmen and other department officials and staff.

SUMMARY:

With minimal direction the plumber installs, alters and maintains plumbing systems and auxiliary equipment. The plumber works cooperatively with other employees, students and the public.

DUTIES:

  • Installs, alters and maintains plumbing systems, domestic hot water tanks, boiler, water and sanitary systems, equipment, devices and fixtures.
  • Maintains and repairs fire sprinkler systems
  • Directs, advises or assists other employees as appropriate.
  • Assists in design, cost estimates and preparation of materials list for related projects, utilizing drawings, work sketches and specifications.
  • Conducts periodic testing as required to ensure the proper operation of systems relative to this position.
  • Reports parts and supplies inventory levels.
  • Reports work completed including time and materials used.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work environment.
  • Performs other maintenance related or emergent duties.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, SKILLS:

  • Completion of an Apprenticeship Program and Interprovincial Trade Certificate as a Plumber
  • A Class B Gas Fitter certificate of qualification
  • Valid Cross Connection Control Certification
  • Minimum five years related experience at the journeyman level.
  • A valid B.C. Class 5 driver's license.
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures, including Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, Workers' Compensation regulations and traffic regulations.
  • Competent in the use and care of tools and equipment common to this trade.
  • Ability to plan and schedule work and organize the workload effectively.
  • Ability to work in confined areas and heights.
  • Ability to maintain close attention to detail.
  • Ability to use courtesy and tact in the explanation of and discussion of information in contact with students, suppliers and other staff.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform individually and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED (Plumber)

Hand tools, power tools, threading/cutting machine, and other relevant plumbing equipment

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • Sufficient vision to perform duties of a plumber.
  • Fundamental ability to use the tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Manual dexterity and physically able to perform the duties
