Senior Business Analyst - Payments Technology (ACH)
About the role
This role is hybrid and requires you to be at our downtown Toronto and/or Client office (81 Bay Street, Toronto) at a minimum 1 day per week - subject to change at any time.
The Senior Business Analyst (BA) plays a crucial role in supporting payments product and technology initiatives, with a primary focus on ACH payments, ISO 20022 messaging, and corporate banking technology. The BA will perform detailed requirements analysis, document current and future state processes, support solution design and delivery, and support or perform user acceptance testing across cash management and payments modernization initiatives.
Your future duties and responsibilities
- Evaluate current-state payments, cash management, and corporate banking processes; identify gaps, risks, and opportunities; and define practical future-state solutions.
- Lead ongoing reviews of ACH payment flows, ISO 20022 message-related processes, operational workflows, and business rules to support optimization and modernization.
- Stay up to date on payments technology, ACH network considerations, ISO 20022 adoption, corporate banking platforms, process automation, and IT advancements.
- Conduct meetings, interviews, workshops, and presentations with business, operations, product, technology, compliance, and vendor stakeholders.
- Perform requirements analysis for payments products, ACH processing, ISO 20022 data requirements, cash management capabilities, integrations, reporting, and downstream impacts.
- Document and communicate business requirements, functional requirements, process flows, data mappings, user stories, use cases, acceptance criteria, and traceability artifacts.
- Effectively communicate insights, recommendations, risks, dependencies, and delivery plans to cross-functional team members and management.
- Gather critical information from stakeholder sessions and translate it into clear, actionable deliverables and decision-ready reports.
- Work closely with clients, product owners, solution architects, developers, QA teams, operations teams, vendors, and project managers.
- Provide leadership, training, coaching, and guidance to junior business analysts and project team members as required.
- Support project planning, resource coordination, budget awareness, and cost-effective delivery across assigned initiatives.
- Ensure solutions meet business needs, technical requirements, regulatory expectations, operational controls, and client experience objectives.
- Support and/or perform user acceptance testing, including test planning, scenario definition, defect triage, and sign-off coordination.
- Support project management activities including project plans, RAID logs, status reporting, resourcing, budget tracking, and performance monitoring.
- Update, implement, and maintain procedures, business process documentation, operating models, and knowledge artifacts.
- Prioritize initiatives and backlog items based on business value, payment processing impact, risk, dependencies, and stakeholder needs.
- Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders, users, product teams, technology teams, vendors, and delivery leadership.
- Manage competing priorities, dependencies, scope changes, and stakeholder expectations across waterfall, agile, and hybrid agile delivery models.
- Monitor deliverables, milestones, risks, and issues to support timely completion of projects.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, Commerce, Finance, Information Technology, or related field; MBA considered an asset.
- 5+ years of experience in an IT environment as a Business Analyst, Product Analyst, Payments Analyst, or related role.
- Direct experience with payments products and technologies, with primary focus on ACH payments and ISO 20022 messaging standards.
- Strong understanding of corporate banking technology, including cash management, payment initiation, payment processing, reporting, client channels, and operational workflows.
- Knowledge of financial services and banking domains, including payments modernization, transaction banking, treasury services, client onboarding impacts, controls, and data management.
- Proven track record supporting large, complex IT programs in enterprise environments using SDLC practices across waterfall, agile, and hybrid agile delivery models.

Certifications (preferred but not required):

The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $80,000–$130,000. This role is an existing vacancy.
