About the role

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Ambulatory Care and Regional Poison Centre, and accountable to the Professional Practice Leader of Physiotherapy, the Physiotherapist will provide a service that meets the assessment and intervention needs of those children and youth who require complex pain management. The caseload will include referrals through the Complex Pain Clinic and other ambulatory clinics, outpatients, and occasionally inpatients. The Physiotherapist assesses and treats patients on receipt of a referral while maintaining liaison with medical staff and other interdisciplinary team members. The Physiotherapist will also participate in the education of HealthCentre Staff, affiliating students, patients and families, provide capacity building with physiotherapists and care providers throughout the maritime region, and attend regular care team and discipline meetings. As a member of the physiotherapy service, the Physiotherapist will share responsibility with all IWK PT’s for caseload coverage throughout the Health Centre as required, as well as weekend standby and call back coverage on a rotational basis.

Flexible hours, Mon-Fri 8-4

Your Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) approved Physiotherapy Program required.
  • Licensure to practice by the Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapists (NSCP) required.
  • Registered, or eligible for membership, in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) required.
  • Minimum one (1) year pediatric clinical experience preferred. Experience working in a complex pain program an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team in a variety of settings as well as the ability to work independently required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in assessment and intervention for pediatric complex pain.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills required.
  • Demonstrated excellent time management, organization and problem-solving skills required.
  • Current successful completion of CPR Level-C Health Care Provider within the last 12 months required.
  • Previous experience working with adolescents with complex pain preferred.
  • Knowledge of program-based care an asset.
  • Competencies in other languages considered an asset.
