About the role
Oulton College is seeking a faculty member with a Bachelor's or Master's degree to teach a Sociology course within their Dental Hygiene program.
This course introduces key concepts in Sociology, examining how social structures, relationships, and cultural influences shape individual and group experiences. It explores topics such as identity, social interaction, and the organization of society, while also addressing issues of discrimination, exclusion, and inequity across factors such as race/ethnicity, socio-economic status, sex/gender, and ability.
The course is designed to help students develop critical thinking skills, broaden their perspectives, and build greater awareness and empathy for diverse lived experiences, particularly within professional and care-based environments.
The course start date is June 2026, offered in a 19-week semester (3 hours per week of teaching.
Key Responsibilities:

Deliver course content through lectures

Facilitate student learning in areas including:

Analyze key sociological theories and research that explain discrimination, exclusion, and inequity across factors such as race/ethnicity, sex/gender, class, ability, and other social identities.

Examine the sociological, cultural, and economic factors that shape experiences of discrimination and social inequality.

Evaluate how discrimination, exclusion, and inequity are embedded within social structures, institutions, and processes, and how they influence individual and group experiences.

Grade assignments, exams, and learning activities

Provide timely, constructive feedback to students

Foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment

Collaborate with faculty and program teams as required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sociology or a closely related discipline
- Experience teaching at the post-secondary level, with demonstrated ability to engage and support degree-level learners, is considered a strong asset
- Strong understanding of learning outcomes, assessment design, and academic standards aligned with undergraduate education
- Excellent communication, organizational, and instructional skills
- Demonstrated ability to foster critical thinking, academic writing, and scholarly inquiry in students
