Duties and Responsibilities: Reporting to the Director of Care, this position will be responsible:
- To ensure resident nursing care, including accountability for personnel, equipment supplies, records, and medication;
- Participates in developing, interpreting and implementing of the nursing division’s philosophy, objectives, standards, policies and procedures;
- Provide unit supervision, on call, shift work;
- Assess the status of residents, including the identification of needs and appropriate interventions, as well as nursing preadmission requirements;
- Assess the quality of nursing care provided by nursing staff including performance evaluations;
- Prepares staffing, vacation and other related schedules and documentation;
- Assists in the recruitment and orientation of staff; Responsible for training and development;
- Ensures compliance with appropriate collective agreements;
- Recommends the discipline of nursing staff when necessary;
- Prepares reports as directed; Ensures the maintenance of residents’ rights;
- Ensures appropriate safety measures are adhered to;
- Serves as Infection Control Officer and maintains/monitors appropriate statistics;
- Conducts staff meetings as required;
- Maintains an awareness of appropriate and current research and developments in gerontology and nursing care;
- Other duties as assigned under Emergency Preparedness Plan;
- Develop and maintain continuous quality improvements including computerized care classification;
- Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program.
- Will perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Must have an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma plus a Community College Diploma in Nursing, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency, combined with 4 years of experience in the field of geriatric, rehabilitation or long term care in a computerized environmentOR
- University Degree in Nursing, combined with 2 years of experience in the field of geriatric, rehabilitation or long-term care in a computerized environment;
- Must hold and maintain a current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse;
- Must have the ability to travel to off site locations in a timely and expedient manner as required. If method of travel is by vehicle, a current valid Ontario Driver’s License is required.
- Must have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Corporate Health & Safety Policies and other applicable legislation it’s regulations and codes;
- Work experience in a health care setting a definite asset;
- Will be required to complete and remain current, per the requirements of the Corporation’s Management Certificate Program.

- The physical demands analysis associated with this job indicates a medium level of work.
- Must complete a post-offer agility test in an effort to assist the successful candidate in completing the position tasks safely and to aid in minimizing injuries on the job.
