Join theCantina Mercatto kitchen team as a Prep Cook**!** We’re looking for someone with great prep skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to jump in and support the team during busy services.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Prepare dishes with consistency and attention to detail, following Mercatto recipes and plating standards
  • Support the kitchen leadership team through delegated tasks from the Sous Chef, Chef de Cuisine, Executive Chef, or General Manager
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe station at all times
  • Stay on top of prep duties and contribute to efficient, smooth service
  • Contribute to a positive, high-performance kitchen culture

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • 1–2 years of cooking experience in a fast-paced kitchen is an asset
  • Culinary training or education is an asset
  • Strong knife skills and understanding of basic cooking techniques
  • Ability to follow direction and maintain composure during service
  • A positive attitude, clear communication, and team-first mindset
  • Interest in learning and growing within a hospitality-focused kitchen

For Jack and Domenic Scarangella, ‘a tavola' meant a lot of things while being raised in an Italian household. But most of the time it meant only one thing – ‘time to eat.'

Since August of '98 ‘the boys' have been able to pass on to this city what countless hours at the table have passed on to them. Colourful, comforting and traditional meals made with love from fresh seasonal ingredients, accompanied by booming laughter and flowing wine.

From a lunchtime hotspot to a dining destination, Mercatto has grown considerably since renovating its original location on Toronto Street in 2007. Their philosophy of fresh ingredients and friendly staff has not changed, but what has is their approach to food and wine.

What once was a humble wine list has since become an ever changing, award winning wine program. Mercatto's wine list not only focuses on Italy's diverse wine regions, but it also compliments the menu's regional Italian cuisine. With menu changes occurring seasonally, the wine list and menu continue to work off one other's success.
