Position Description

As a Patient Information Clerk, you will frequently be the first point of contact when patients and families arrive to the department. You will provide service in a customer-focused manner. You will facilitate the delivery of patient care by providing a high level of support and assistance to patient cluster staff and patients/families. You will also support the operation of the team/department by providing clerical and administrative functions in a proactive, organized manner.

Here's What You'll Get To Do

  • Hours of work : 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday
  • Greet and orient patients and their families to 6C Ambulatory Neurosciences & Neurophysiology
  • Check In ' For Neurology, Neurophysiology, and Neurosurgery patients (with HEDI and MyChart)
  • MyChart Self-Registered/eChecked-in Patients ' To ask the Travel and Infection screening questions
  • Schedule and coordinate appointments; Reschedule appointments as necessary and inform necessary people of these changes
  • Notify patients/families of any updates or changes to their appointments
  • Coordinate unit administrative functions to ensure efficient operation of the unit, within scope of authority
  • Monitoring clinic incoming Faxes/outgoing Faxing Rx
  • Maintain an efficient and tidy work environment
  • Answer phone calls and respond to requests for information from families and healthcare staff
  • Facilitate communication flow via telephone, paging, and computer access
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Here's What You'll Need

Essential Requirements

  • Diploma from a recognized Medical Administration program
  • Medical Terminology certificate
  • Previous clerical experience in a hospital/medical environment
  • Experience with patient registration systems is required (EPIC)
  • Basic proficiency with computers (i.e. word processing)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities
  • Ability to be self-directed, to be flexible and to take initiative
  • Attention to detail and efficient time management
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Demonstrates commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion objectives

Asset

  • EPIC training and patient registration experience are assets
