Sr. Engineer - Engineering Measurement & Verification

Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid
Annual salary: $ 107,000.00 - 135,300.00
Position Highlights
BC Hydro is an energy conservation leader among North American utilities, implementing a large portfolio of programs and
initiatives that encourage customers to conserve electricity and use it more efficiently. The Engineering and Evaluation and
Measurement Verification Business Unit is responsible for the evaluation of all energy management initiatives in our service
territory, including programs, conservation rates, and government codes and standards. The Department also undertakes
research to better understand the market for energy consuming products and to profile the energy use habits of BC Hydro
customers. Our expanding team includes one manager, eight senior level employees, and one consultant with expertise in
engineering, statistics, economics, survey research, social sciences, and project management.
What you'll do
- Conducts industrial and large commercial program impact evaluations - applying engineering and established evaluation
methodologies to assess energy and demand savings.
- Collaborates with program managers, engineering, Measurement and Verification (M&V), and other departments to clarify
program details, address data needs, and coordinate work throughout the evaluation lifecycle.
- Analyzes interval and billing data to quantify savings, identify load patterns, and support evaluation findings with outcome-
based evidence.
- Conducts advanced quantitative analyses using engineering estimates, statistical modeling, regression analysis, and
extrapolation of measurement and verification (M&V) data.
- Prepares and integrates datasets from multiple internal sources - including metering, customer accounts, and program
tracking systems - to support rigorous and repeatable evaluation analysis.
- Collaborates closely with team leads, fellow evaluators, program managers, and external partners in a dynamic, cross-
functional team environment.
- Provides technical guidance and collaborates with internal stakeholders - including senior managers, program leads, and
audit staff - throughout the evaluation lifecycle to ensure methodological rigor, resolve issues proactively, and meet internal
audit and quality assurance requirements.
- Contributes to evaluation reports and presentations by documenting methods, summarizing analytical results, and clearly
communicating findings for internal and external stakeholders including BC Utility Commission (BCUC).
- Contributes to the planning of future evaluation projects by engaging with stakeholders, identifying appropriate
methodologies, anticipating data requirements, and documenting robust research designs.
What you bring
- Degree in electrical, mechanical, integrated engineering, or a related discipline, with training that supports applied
engineering analysis.
- 8 years of experience in the conduct of complex analysis with a high level of expertise, including experience with report
preparation and presentation of results.
- Engineering experience in commercial and industrial energy systems, such as HVAC, compressed air, pumping,
refrigeration, motors, and process loads.
- Working knowledge of Measurement and Verification (M&V) principles, including the ability to review engineering
assumptions and evaluate savings calculations.

Strong analytical skills with advanced proficiency in Excel, including experience working with large and complex datasets.

Experience with Python, SAS, R, or SQL is an asset, particularly for data preparation or analytical automation.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and prepare clear evaluation
documentation.
