Vision and Core Values OMERS overall vision is to play a leadership role in the pension industry and be best in class, deliver superior services and to grow and attract investment partners. The core values are to be fair, have high integrity, respect for each other, provide superior service and work as a team.
The Corporate Objectives for OMERS is to provide secure pensions for all their constituents by:
- Investing to earn outstanding returns with due regard for risk
- Partnering with like-minded investment managers
- Providing high quality service to our members and employers
- Delivering value for money
- Building a culture of excellence and pride in OMERS
OMERS Operating Principles are: Financial Strength, Accountability, Member Focus, Talent and Reporting.
Value Proposition This is an opportunity to join a forward-looking team at a pivotal moment in OMERS’ digital transformation. Our Capital Markets platform — spanning order management, investment accounting, performance measurement, and data warehousing — is undergoing meaningful change, and we are building the team that will carry it forward.
We are deliberately hiring for this role at the Business Analyst level because we believe the right candidate does not need an extensive resume to make a real contribution. What they need is a growth mindset, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine willingness to develop their skills in a challenging, fast-moving environment. If that describes you, this role offers something that is genuinely difficult to find at this stage of a career.
Project Daybreak is a multi-year transformation that will replace our core investment platform infrastructure. Joining this team now means you will be working inside a live, complex technology change from the beginning — navigating evolving requirements, cross-functional stakeholders, and real delivery pressure. That kind of exposure, early in a career, builds instincts and adaptability that take others years to develop.
Our team is also in the early stages of embedding AI into how we work. This is not a pilot or a future initiative, it is happening now, and we expect every member of the team to engage with it seriously. We are looking for someone who is already using AI tools in their own work and who sees practical AI fluency as a professional skill worth building. As we continue to identify opportunities to embed AI within our processes and redesign workflows where it adds genuine value, this person will have a hand in shaping how that unfolds.
The capital markets domain is a body of knowledge that travels well. The combination of investment data, multi-system integration experience, and delivery discipline you will build here opens doors across the financial services industry. For the right candidate, this contract also carries a genuine path to a full-time role based on performance.
This role joins a team on a journey, with significant future potential in a global, sophisticated, and complex enterprise.
Scope of Position Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Integration & Performance Platform, the Business Analyst will support and contribute to a variety of initiatives across our mission-critical data and investment performance platforms. Working alongside senior business analysts, developers, and platform stakeholders, the incumbent will develop their ability to gather and document requirements, support platform enhancements, assist with testing and production support, and contribute to the ongoing quality and discoverability of our platform documentation.
This role is designed for someone early in their career who is ready to take on real work, learn quickly, and grow their ownership over time as they demonstrate capability.
Responsibilities
- Participate in both Agile and Waterfall projects related to data and performance platform enhancements, system integrations, and process improvements, developing familiarity with end-to-end delivery across both methodologies
- Support the documentation of project scope, objectives, deliverables, and timelines under the guidance of senior team members, building toward independent ownership of smaller initiatives
- Assist in gathering and analyzing requirements for projects impacting the OMERS investment data warehouse and performance measurement platform, contributing to the production of user stories, business requirements documents, process flow diagrams, and data flow documentation
- Develop and build proficiency in investment reporting using SQL, Power BI, or similar tools, with initial work supported by senior team members
- Support the definition and execution of business test plans, including functional, integration, and regression testing, developing the ability to design and run structured test cases independently over time
- Contribute to change management activities including identifying stakeholder impacts, supporting end-user training, and assisting with communications
- Work with technology teams on system enhancements, upgrades, and patches, gaining exposure to how platform changes are scoped, implemented, and validated
- Develop familiarity with the data warehouse and performance measurement platforms, working toward becoming a reliable resource for internal partners on data and platform questions
- Contribute to support documentation including troubleshooting guides, knowledge base articles, data dictionaries, data lineage documentation, and metadata — building skills in producing clear, structured, and discoverable content
- Support data accuracy and integrity monitoring, learning how to identify and triage production data issues and communicate status and resolution to stakeholders
- Actively use AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot 365 as part of day-to-day work, and contribute to the team’s ongoing effort to identify where AI can be embedded within existing processes or used to redesign them
- Build relationships with platform partners by contributing to a culture of transparency, collaboration, and service excellence
Qualifications
- 0–3 years of experience in a business analysis, data, or technology-adjacent role; relevant internships, co-op terms, and academic project work are considered
- Foundational understanding of business analysis concepts such as requirements gathering, process documentation, or user stories — with a clear willingness to deepen these skills on the job
- Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases; you do not need to be an expert, but you should be comfortable writing queries, learning from data, and building your skills with practice
- Exposure to ETL or data pipeline concepts, data warehousing fundamentals, or similar data integration patterns, whether through coursework, personal projects, or professional experience
- Some awareness of investment performance measurement, financial instruments, or the investment lifecycle is an asset but not a requirement; genuine curiosity about the capital markets domain matters more
- Hands-on experience with investment applications such as Eagle, SimCorp, FactSet, Bloomberg, or Aladdin is a plus but not expected at this level
- Familiarity with the Azure cloud platform or Snowflake is considered a nice to have
- Active use of AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar in your own workflows; experience with prompt engineering or AI-assisted process improvement is a differentiator
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
- Analytical and structured in your thinking, with demonstrated ability to work through ambiguity and ask the right questions
- Highly collaborative, with a track record, however early, of contributing positively to team environments
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Accounting, Finance, or Economics
- CFA and CBAP certifications are considered an asset
- Possesses drive, optimism, and a genuine desire to deliver with excellence and a commitment to continuous improvement
This posting is for an existing vacancy.
The expected salary range for this position is $86,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year, prorated based on the term of the contract.
You may also be eligible to receive an annual Incentive Award pursuant to our Short-term Incentive plan and our Long-Term Incentive plan (if applicable), and to participate in our group benefits and retirement plans – details on these elements of compensation are included within OMERS & Oxford offer letters.
As one of Canada’s largest defined benefit pension plans, our people-first culture is at its best when our workforce reflects the communities where we live and work — and the members we proudly serve.
From hire to retire, we are an equal opportunity employer committed to an inclusive, barrier-free recruitment and selection process that extends all the way through your employee experience. This sense of belonging and connection is cultivated up, down and across our global organization thanks to our vast network of Employee Resource Groups with executive leader sponsorship, our Purpose@Work committee and employee recognition programs.
Artificial intelligence (AI) tools are used to support certain stages of the OMERS recruitment process. While AI assists us in our process, human judgment and decision-making remain central to our candidate experience.
