Job Description

A Diagnostic Imaging Informatics System Administrator at Halton Healthcare ensures the smooth operation of PACS, RIS, and imaging informatics systems that support 24/7 clinical care. The role oversees system reliability, integrations, data integrity, privacy compliance, and technical troubleshooting while coordinating with clinical teams, IT, and vendors. With strong knowledge of imaging standards and a customer-focused approach, the System Administrator supports upgrades, optimizes workflows, and helps maintain high-quality, efficient imaging services across the organization.

Responsibilities:

Workflow Support & User Training

  • Optimize image workflow, study distribution, worklists, and reconstructions to support radiologists, technologists, and referring clinicians.
  • Provide training for new staff and ongoing support to all PACS users; update training documentation and best-practice guides.
  • Collaborate with Diagnostic Imaging leadership, modality vendors, and IT/IS to resolve workflow or connectivity issues.

Compliance, Security & Quality

  • Implement and enforce PACS/RIS policies related to privacy, security, and data integrity in alignment with PHIPA.
  • Maintain audit trails, support compliance reviews, and ensure imaging data meets provincial DI Common Service standards.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including system audits, corrective actions, and image quality assessments.

Planning & Improvement

  • Participate in planning activities for imaging system upgrades, lifecycle management, hardware refresh, and storage expansion.

  • Provide reporting on uptime, storage utilization, workflow metrics, data analytics, and system performance indicators.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including adoption of emerging imaging technologies and enterprise imaging strategies.

Qualifications

Halton Healthcare is seeking individuals who are competent in their chosen profession; patient/customer focused; team players; effective communicators; caring and respectful and are fiscally responsible

  • Diploma/degree in Medical Radiation Technology, Health Informatics, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in PACS/RIS support or imaging informatics within a healthcare environment. Experience with PACS vendors and RIS integrations required.
  • Strong working knowledge of medical imaging standards and protocols: DICOM, HL7, IHE, Web Services, viewers/post-processing tools and applications. Experience configuring modality connectivity, RIS interfacing, archive/archive refresh, and system migrations.
  • Solid IT infrastructure knowledge: Basic server and networking knowledge.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills, able to manage complex issues under time pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clinical, technical and vendor stakeholders; excellent communication (written/verbal), teaching/training skills.
  • Knowledge of Ontario healthcare context (provincial imaging repository, Connecting Ontario, DI Common Service Standard) and privacy/security regulations (PHIPA) required.
  • Required to participate in after-hours support / on-call rotation to ensure PACS uptime 24/7.
  • Certification or continuing education in imaging informatics (e.g., CIIP, PACS Administrator certificate) is required.
  • current registration and good standing with the College of Medical Radiation Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is an asset

Additional Information

Status: Temporary Full-Time (Approx. 12 months)

Hours: Monday to Friday- 7.5 hour day shifts (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)

Salary: $45.982 to $59.737 per hour
