Job Description

De Beers Group has an opportunity for a motivated and energetic individual in an environment with opportunities for learning and growth as an integral contributor to the success of Gahcho Kué Mine. We have an opportunity within the Mobile Maintenance Department at the Gahcho Kué Mine, based in the Northwest Territories for a highly motivated Welder Artisan. Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor, Truck Shop the incumbent will be responsible for the preventative maintenance and major repairs to mobile, auxiliary and stationary mining equipment, while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect the values of De Beers. The ideal candidate is one who is committed to safe working practices and strives for zero harm.

Key responsibilities:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and fabricate site structures and equipment in all areas of active mining, mine maintenance, and processing
  • Grind, gouge and repair cracks in haul truck bodies, shovel buckets, dozer blades, and other mining equipment
  • Conduct inspections on mining equipment and structures and perform preventative maintenance as needed
  • Use the following welding processes: FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW
  • Work cohesively with other tradespeople
  • Provide innovative solutions and best practices

This position is on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation.

Qualifications

  • Valid Interprovincial Red Seal Welder Certification

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team

  • Ability to communicate, share information and seek input to complete assigned work;

  • B Pressure welding ticket would be considered an asset

  • CWB welding tickets would be considered an asset

  • Previous mining experience is an asset

  • Experience with SAP would be considered assets; and

  • Experience working at a remote mining site and in a cross cultural work environment.
