Position Summary
The School of Dentistry is recruiting for an Imaging Assistant RDA. This position will report to the Clinical Supervisor and under the supervision of the Advanced Imaging Coordinator, the Imaging Assistant RDA will provide clinical and administrative support to students, residents, and instructors in the Oral Health Clinic.
This role operates in a dynamic environment, offering radiology and imaging software support, and managing both 2D (conventional radiographs) and 3D (CBCT) imaging services. Key responsibilities include technological support in imaging, advanced imaging acquisition, data and reports generation, ensuring quality assurance, and supporting various disciplines within the clinic. Proficiency in computer skills, particularly in managing 3D imaging software and electronic imaging records, is essential for this role.
Duties
- Perform 2D and 3D extraoral maxillofacial and other pertinent radiographic examinations for School of Dentistry Oral Health Clinic patients.
- Work with the Director of the Advanced Imaging Centre, Discipline lead and IT team to provide support and help with implementation of upgrades and new digital initiatives
- Weekly CBCT scans calibration
- Acquire CBCT scans - following CBCT protocols and requisition expectations
- Evaluate scan for artifacts related to the acquisition process and consult with the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist immediately for changes in the parameters, as required
- Maintains quality control of dental exposures utilizing ALARA guidelines for all users within the radiology clinic
- Various other duties specific to 2D and 3D imaging
- Responsible for work-ups and/or reconstructing images and uploading images to requesting discipline
Qualifications
- Diploma/Certificate from an accredited Dental Assisting Program or NDAEB Certification
- Current registration with College of Alberta Dental Assistants (CADA)
- Five years of previous RDA clinical experience and using Electronic Health Records
- Three years experience in the operation of various radiology equipment including Advanced imaging techniques such as Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) equipment
- Advanced computer skills are required with experience with spreadsheets and imaging software including reformatting and post processing of CBCT images
- Experienced in the troubleshooting and maintenance of CBCT equipment
- Experienced with different CBCT scans and keen to learn new technologies/machines
- Knowledge of dental materials management, dental instrumentation and dental equipment
- Current CPR: Health Care Provider Level C certification; Knowledge of WHMIS
- Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and perform tasks accurately with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; meet deadlines and work well under pressure
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Experience with Radiation Quality Assurance is an asset
