Hours of Work : Call-in basis, Monday-Friday (typically afternoon shift), summer hours (July and August, typically transition to day shift)

Rate of Pay : $23.09 per hour + 4% vacation pay, as of September 1, 2025

Are you looking for a rewarding and flexible career supporting the daily maintenance and operations of Schools?

The Avon Maitland District School Board is inviting applications for casual Custodians who will support our Elementary (K-8) and/or Secondary schools (9-12) located in Huron and Perth counties.

The Basic Custodian duties may include:

Building Maintenance

  • Change lights;
  • Shovel snow and operate snow blower;
  • Clean and inspect roof;
  • Operate grass cutting equipment;
  • Perform minor repairs;
  • Conduct health and safety checks; and
  • Service roof top unit.

Building Cleaning

  • Operate and maintain all equipment; and
  • Perform all minor and major cleaning.

Requirements/Education

  • Minimum grade 12 diploma or GED equivalent

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • The ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding.
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience in one or more of the trade disciplines e.g. plumbing, electrical, carpentry.
  • Exemplary interpersonal, professional and organizational skills.
  • The ability to use a computer (e.g. Google Suite; Smart Find, etc.)
  • Experience in handling machinery (e.g. buffing machine, lawn mowers, snow blowers); and,
  • Knowledge of proper usage of hazardous chemicals and cleaning supplies.
