Job Summary:
Reporting to the faculty-researcher, the Junior Research Assistant provides support to facilitate the successful execution of research projects, as outlined below. This position will require experience in academic literature review (reference management platforms and compiling literature) as well as community engagement experience (liaising with community groups, and running community engagement events).
Job Description:
Duties & Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the faculty-researcher, typical responsibilities may include the following:
- Performs routine data gathering activities as directed by research supervisor or other research team members.
- Accurately and consistently records results or transcriptions and procedures.
- Provides assistance to the research team, for example, records notes, describes observations, supplies reminders.
- Collects experimental data/software performance
- Compiles data for reports and presentations
- Gathers literature or other resources as directed by supervisor
- Conveys information about the working environment including when supplies are running low.
- Operates advanced scientific equipment/software/survey tools with direction.
- Offer students assistance with performing data gathering activities as directed by supervisor or other research team members.
- Maintain safe work environment
- Performs other related project duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
Education & Experience
- Completion of minimum of one (1) year of post-secondary studies related to the field of inquiry
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills & Abilities
- General research skills related to the field of inquiry, for example, the ability to describe, copy, label, or list the results of research.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as the ability to work independently
- Ability to prioritize and schedule work to ensure timelines are met
- Ability to physically perform the duties of the position and meet work performance set by the college
- Proficiency using computer applications such as MS Office applications, email and web browsers
