Job Description :

Reporting to the Coordinator Pedagogical and Institutional Development, the incumbent will provide direct support to Indigenous students and foster connections with Indigenous communities, organizations, and other educational institutions in Quebec. This role has two main mandates: firstly, to promote the inclusion of Indigenous students; and secondly, to enhance the understanding of Indigenous realities among faculty and staff.

What you'll conquer every day

  • Assess the needs and interests of Indigenous students to develop activities and support services that align with their cultural backgrounds and academic or life goals.
  • Offer personalized, culturally safe support to help Indigenous students navigate their educational paths, overcome challenges, and achieve their aspirations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and other educational institutions to ensure ongoing collaboration and support to students.
  • Facilitate connections between Indigenous students and relevant external resources (e.g., Indigenous Friendship Centres, community organizations).
  • Organize and promote activities for Indigenous students, such as traditional events and elder evenings, to foster connection with their heritage and create a supportive community within the Cégep.
  • Plan and coordinate activities such as Orange Shirt Day, Red Dress Day, and workshops to raise awareness of Indigenous cultures and histories within the college community.
  • Advocate for Indigenous students within the Cégep, ensuring they have access to appropriate services and accommodations.
  • Collaborate with student services and other departments to promote an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts to encourage Indigenous students to consider post-secondary education and support their transition to college life.
  • Develop and implement welcome procedures and activities for new Indigenous students to ensure a smooth transition and a sense of belonging.
  • All other related tasks

Requirements :

What makes you the one

  • Preference will be given to Indigenous candidates. Candidates with direct experience working with the Indigenous communities as well as significant knowledge of Indigenous cultures and realities will also be considered.
  • You have a diploma of college studies (DEC) in a related field (education, social work, or Indigenous studies) or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
  • Relevant experience, particularly in an educational setting could be an asset.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in English and French is required; knowledge of an Indigenous language is an asset.

Required Tests : The candidates will be required to submit to English and French language tests.

Work Schedule : Monday to Friday (21 hours per week)

Salary Scale : From 26.63$ to 34.45$
