Process Engineer I Location: Sarnia, ON Type: ~17-month contract Rate: $85/h
About the Role We are seeking an experienced Process Engineer to support capital projects at a major refining operation in Sarnia, Ontario. This is a hands-on role focused on process design, project execution, and technical oversight across multiple concurrent projects. This role involves managing multiple small-to-medium projects simultaneously—from initial authorization through to final close-out—while ensuring alignment with company standards, safety expectations, and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities Lead development of process design specifications, including heat & material balances, PFDs, equipment design, and utility systems Oversee engineering contractors during FEED and detailed engineering phases Manage multiple projects ($1MM–$50MM) from authorization through close-out Conduct process optimization studies to drive cost savings and efficiency improvements Participate in HAZOPs and support safety system design Provide commissioning and startup support for new or modified units Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support junior engineers
Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (or equivalent) 5–15 years of experience in process or project engineering Background in oil & gas / refining / downstream manufacturing (preferred) Experience working on capital projects, ideally in a brownfield environment Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting Strong communication and problem-solving skills
