Description What you’ll be doing
Description SJS Canada is seeking a Vice Chair/Secretary to join our Board of Directors. This leadership role is ideal for someone passionate about advocacy, governance, and making a meaningful impact in the healthcare and non-profit sector. The Chair/ Vice Chair will support the President, lead the Board in fulfilling its responsibilities, and play a key role in maintaining the overall health of the charity.
As the Chair of the Board of Directors, in addition to regular duties, the Board Chair is responsible for holding SJSC’s Board of Directors accountable – ensuring they fulfill their roles and responsibilities regarding the effective governance of the charity as a functional unit. The Chair collaborates, supports, and where appropriate, challenges and advises the Executive Team for the effective management of the organization.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience while spreading awareness about this often fatal-illness. This position allows you to connect with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (SJS/TEN) survivors, community members, and businesses including pharmacies, clinics, and other related healthcare institutions.
Time Commitment: Regular Board meetings are held every 4-6 weeks via Zoom or other virtual meeting site. The Board Chair is also expected to Chair AGMs and biannual Town Halls for a total commitment of 6-8 hours per month.

Roles And Responsibilities:
- Support the Board Chair in leading the organization.
- Step in for the Chair when needed.
- Assist in strategic planning, decision-making, and governance.
- Help foster partnerships and stakeholder relationships.
- Record and distribute meeting minutes.
- Maintain board documents and ensure compliance with organizational policies.
- Assist in scheduling meetings and preparing agendas.
- Oversee official correspondence and record-keeping.
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Experience in non-profit governance, leadership, or administration. Strong organizational and communication skills. Passion for health advocacy and community impact. Ability to commit 5-10 hours per month. Prior experience on a Board of Directors (preferred but not required).
