Nicola Similkameen School District serves the two communities of Merritt and Princeton, six First Nations Bands, the Métis and the Conayt Friendship Society. The mountains, lakes and valleys within the district make it a natural setting for fabulous, year-round outdoor activities. Merritt, where the office is located, is in the Nicola Valley and is the hub of a highway system that links Kamloops, Kelowna, and the Lower Mainland. Ranching, forestry, health, local government, and tourism are the major industries in the valley.
Our Strategic Plan has a “Success for ALL Learners” focus, supported by a dedicated staff, engaged rightsholders and partners who share a genuine commitment to the district. The district offers rich programming to just over 2075 students, 48% of whom are Indigenous. We are proud of our work towards Truth and Reconciliation.
Nicola Similkameen school district is accepting applications for UNCERTIFIED Teachers Teaching on Call. The district is****seeking highly skilled and dynamic individuals to join our list of Casual Uncertified Teachers Teaching on Call. Preference will be given to individuals with a demonstrated work history or volunteer experience working with children and youth.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING INCLUDE:
- Bachelor’s degree or other post-secondary education
- Recent successful teaching experience and/or training preferred
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated interest in working with children and youth
Nicola Similkameen School District is working to ensure an inclusive, diverse and representative workforce. Successful candidates will recognize that consistent with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), the BC Human Rights Code and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, employment practices and procedures at all levels must reflect and demonstrate an understanding of, and response to, a diverse population.
Nicola Similkameen School District has received approval from the Human Rights Tribunal allowing preferential hiring to persons of Indigenous ancestry. The district may give preference in hiring persons of Indigenous ancestry who possess the necessary qualifications to increase the number of Indigenous staff to be more representative of the learners we serve.
The daily rate for uncertified teachers is $240.00.
