About the role

We are looking for someone to join our Production Team in beautiful Lunenburg, NS.An affiliate of the Airbus Group of Companies, STELIA is an aerospace and defence company specializing in the design, development, and manufacturing of composite components and assemblies. Headquartered in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, and with a site in Mirabel, Quebec, we operate in more than 150,000 sq feet of facilities dedicated to operations, manufacturing and administration.
The Composite Technician manufactures parts by cutting materials (e.g., pre-impregnated cloth or honeycomb core), laying materials onto molds, vacuum-bagging, curing in oven or autoclave, and/or demolding parts. The operator embraces a culture defined by safety, quality, teamwork, and accountability.
We operate in a shift work environment, which includes a day shift and evening shift. This schedule allows for a mix of daytime and evening hours, making it ideal for those who appreciate a structured yet flexible routine.
In this role you will:
Cutting and Kitting Raw Materials
- Prepare the kits of raw material (e.g., carbon fiber or fiberglass prepregs, adhesive films, honeycomb core) per specific work instructions and customer specifications.
- Kitting includes (but not limited to): sorting of material in freezers, program and operate material ply cutting machine, hand cutting of material, etc.
- Deliver kits to the different production areas.
Layup
- Hand layup of advanced composite materials on tooling per specific work instructions and customer specifications.
- Composite operations include (but not limited to): mold and material preparation, weighing, hand cutting of material, vacuum-bagging, basic repair, etc.
Oven / Autoclave Cure
- Load and unload curing equipment (oven, autoclave).
- Operate curing equipment computer.
- Run equipment and monitor cures using the appropriate recipes per specific work instructions and customer specifications.
- Maintain curing equipment tools, such as vacuum hoses and thermocouples.
Demolding
- Demold cured parts from tooling per specific work instructions and customer specifications.
- Move tools for storage or to next stages of production.
- Inspect tool condition and advise on refurbishment, repair.
- Perform preliminary inspection of demolded parts.
- Coordinate tooling preparation with the tooling maintenance team
Others:
- Manage time and temperature-sensitive material.
- Perform self-quality checks.
- Identify nonconforming conditions in material and conditions.
- Record results (e.g., production and inspection) per work instructions where required.
- Meeting schedule and production requirements.
- Following and promoting safety rules, such as wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), safety glasses, safety shoes and hearing protection where required.
You have:
- Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent experience)
- 1 year experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- High attention to detail.
- Self-motivated, quick learner.
- Ability to use power tools, cutting tools and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions and/or blueprints and follow demonstrated steps.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Manual dexterity/coordination.
- Physical demands include lifting and moving material weighing up to 50lbs and wearing personal protective equipment.
- Organizational skills: ability to keep track of various parts and job orders and manage time spent on different tasks.
- Cleanliness: ability to keep a clean workspace (parts can be sensitive to foreign materials).
- Safety-Minded approach: put safety first and realize how important it is to take care around certain machinery/equipment.
- Must be willing to perform other functions and duties as assigned by supervisors.
- Must be willing to work any shift and overtime (as requested).
