Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team, responsible for preparing material and quantity take-offs from architectural drawings and developing detailed cost estimates for glazing and cladding projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Working as collaborative team member you will be required from time-to-time work closely with General Manager, Engineering, Manufacturing, Construction and Project Management to produce competitive, high-value tenders for architectural glazing project.
- Analyze project documents, including drawings, specifications, and addenda to prepare accurate estimates.
- Perform detailed product and material take-offs based on architectural and engineering drawings.
- Request and manage material quotes to support tender submissions.
- Revise estimates in response to post-tender addenda or scope changes.
- Coordinate with internal departments to ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality in all proposals.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor bids; negotiate pricing and scope as needed.
- Maintain organized project files and digital records.
- Attend pre-tender site visits, client meetings, and internal project reviews as required.
- Monitor project progress and communicate changes or delays to operations management.
- Support submittal processes and project approvals.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Promote continuous improvement in estimating practices and overall company operations.
- Regularly update management on sales opportunities and pipeline activity.
Qualifications
- Proven experience with unitized curtain wall, window wall, and stick curtain wall systems.
- Minimum 5 years of estimating experience, preferably on large-scale construction projects
- Strong ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Windows OS, and estimating software
- Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Experience working with technical documentation, spreadsheets, and flowcharts
- Effective team player with a collaborative mindset
Education & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an estimator in commercial glazing, entrance system automation, and specialty hardware
- Post-secondary education in Construction Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or a related field is preferred
Working Conditions
This role is primarily office-based, with occasional site visits as required. The position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing and may require working outside regular business hours to meet project deadlines. A valid driver’s license is required.
Physical Requirements
The role demands strong mental focus, proficient keyboarding skills, and the ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods. Occasional exposure to outdoor environments and varying weather conditions may be necessary during site visits.
