Squiala Secondary School provides a holistic learning environment that accepts and appreciates the uniqueness of each child. In a culturally responsive and rich environment it is our goal to instill confidence and independence in our students by empowering physical, social, spiritual and mental growth. Squiala Secondary School is a First Nation band school and we hold our traditional cultural practices and language close to our hearts. We believe our children deserve the right to practice Stó:lō cultural ways of life. Culture and the Halq'eméylem language are integrated throughout the weekly class schedules. Elder and Cultural Workers provide this service to the students and cultural resources are available to teachers.
Squiala Secondary School offers a unique alternate educational experience for students. In two multi-grade classes (gr 7-9 and gr 10-12), students work on individually paced academics with the BrightSpace online learning platform. This small, intimate class ensures each student receives the attention they need, and is best suited for students who struggle in the public education system due to anxiety, complex trauma, or other barriers to learning.

- You enjoy place-based learning and can create engaging, educational experiences.
- You are a passionate, excited team member who has the energy to keep up with our students!
- You practice trauma-informed teaching strategies and are committed to decolonizing educational practices.
- You are comfortable delivering all curricular subjects working one-on-one or in small groups with students.
- You are comfortable with multiple IEPs in your classroom, and can creatively modify curriculum for students.
- You have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university and hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate or Independent Schools Teaching Certificate.
Through cooperation with the Squiala First Nation Community Centre, Squiala Secondary School enjoys a new school building as well as a full-size gymnasium, work-out room, sports field with playground, garden and greenhouse. Squiala Secondary School also offers its students bussing services, breakfast and lunch programs and has on-site social workers as well as both a learning resource teacher and play therapist. Squiala First Nation is also happy to provide its staff with a pension plan, benefits program, and pays salary on- scale with SD33.
