About the role
The Soup Kitchen Worker at The Door of Hope is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the soup kitchen by preparing and serving meals, maintaining cleanliness and safety standards, and providing respectful support to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. Staff are expected to create a welcoming, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment for all clients accessing services. Key responsibilities include assisting with meal preparation, serving food and beverages, organizing food donations and supplies, following food safety procedures, and helping maintain kitchen sanitation standards. Workers are also responsible for cleaning dishes, kitchen equipment, dining areas, and completing daily closing procedures. Additional duties may include unloading food deliveries, taking out garbage, and reporting maintenance or safety concerns. Soup Kitchen Workers are expected to interact respectfully with vulnerable individuals while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality. They must help ensure a calm and safe environment during meal service and report any incidents or concerns to supervisors when necessary. The ideal candidate is dependable, compassionate, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment. Experience in food service, shelters, or community-based organizations is considered an asset. Food Safe Certification is also considered an asset. Workers must be able to stand for extended periods and lift food supplies or kitchen items when required. Employees are expected to uphold the organizations core values of compassion, respect, integrity, teamwork, professionalism, and commitment to community service while helping provide nutritious meals and support to community members in need.
