What is the opportunity?
As Manager, Local Market Risk, you help promote a “Best of Class” risk oversight environment and play an important role in the ongoing development and monitoring of the market risk framework for equity related trading book strategies.
The ideal candidate will ensure that material market risks are monitored, analyzed, and communicated to management through established reporting processes, management forums and through ad-hoc analysis. You will provide effective ‘second line of defense’ challenge to Front Office risk taking activities, which will require a deep and meaningful understanding of client/trading strategies and products deployed and pertinent risks emerging from cash and derivative market developments to assess implications for the risk profile of the trading books.
What will you do?
The individual will be working in a team to provide market risk oversight for RBC’s Capital Market businesses (mainly in Global Equities and Central Funding), acting as a key link between trading staff, management, and Group Risk Management. Become a subject matter expert in designated desks.
- Run the market risk reporting processes and ensure the accuracy of reports.
- Monitor trading activities and exposures to ensure they remain within Risk Appetite and approved Policies, Limits and Product Mandates.
- Provide constructive challenge to risk limit and product approval requests and risk taking activities.
- Stay abreast of market developments and portfolio risks to provide insightful analysis to senior management and business partners on risk trends and emerging concerns.
- Evaluate risk measures and propose changes as necessary to ensure P&L and risk measurement are properly aligned.
- Collaborate with Business, Technology and other Functional partners on key systems and process initiatives to meet internal and regulatory requirements for the management of market risk and drive efficiency and effectiveness in our processes and decision making.
- Look for opportunity to improve and automate processes within market risk team.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- 1+ years of experience preferred in a market or credit risk or valuations role, including Value-at-Risk measurement and back-testing, Stress Testing, Scenario and Sensitivity analysis and p/l decomposition experience.
- MBA, MA, MS or equivalent with emphasis in finance, economics or a quantitative discipline is preferred.
- Must be a strong collaborator and have a high level of curiosity
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to condense complex details into narratives suitable for communication with senior risk and business management.
- Strong technology experience with proven track record in implementing risk-related software applications such as Python, SQL.
Nice-to-have
- Knowledge of structured products
- Familiar with regulatory/compliance requirements
- CFA/ FRM / PRA are an asset.
