About This Opportunity
ABOUT KIDSTART
KidStart is a prevention program aimed to protect children and youth who are at risk of experiencing serious difficulties in their lives. We provide them with one-to-one mentoring from a caring volunteer. KidStart helps kids make good decisions despite challenging circumstances.
WE ARE LOCAL
KidStart for kids aged 6-12 operates throughout the lower mainland and is available in Burnaby, Coquitlam, New Westminster, the North Shore (North Vancouver and West Vancouver), Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Richmond, Surrey and Vancouver.
KidStart for teens aged 13-18 is available in Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, the North Shore (North Vancouver and West
Vancouver), Pitt Meadows, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Richmond, the Sea to Sky Region, Sunshine Coast and Vancouver.
Our dedicated team of Volunteer Coordinators recruit, screen and train volunteers to become KidStart mentors. Our screening process involves at least two interviews, three references and a criminal record check. Our mentors are also trained in first aid and receive on-going training, support and supervision to help them be the best mentor the can be.
As a KidStart mentor, all you need is a desire to make a lasting difference in the life of a young person, be at least 19 years of age, be in a stable routine and able to commit three hours a week for a minimum of one year. No special skills are required, but lots of special experiences will be had!

19 years of age or older Able to commit to 3 hours a week for one year. Willing to undergo a background or police records check Willing to take Occupatiional First Aid - Level 1 (paid by KidStart) Willing to partake in at least 2 interviews Willing to provide 3 references
