We are currently seeking a Shop Foreman to join our team in our Thunder bay, ON Terminal.
Reporting to the Director of Maintenance, this position is responsible for providing day-to-day maintenance and technical support to our fleet of highway tractors, local P&D vehicles, and other equipment. The Shop Supervisor is responsible for the execution, follow up and reporting of the work planned for the shift.
Duties And Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate daily shop activities, ensuring efficient workflow and timely completion of projects Oversee the maintenance, repair, and assembly of heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, farm machinery, and industrial equipment Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and schematics to diagnose issues and perform repairs Lead troubleshooting efforts for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and company policies; enforce safety protocols among team members Manage inventory of parts and tools necessary for repairs and maintenance tasks Provide technical guidance and mentorship to technicians; facilitate training on new equipment or procedures Communicate effectively with clients regarding repair status or technical issues as needed Maintain detailed records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities Expectation to work on shop floor 50% and manage shop 50%
Experience
Proven experience in Fleet service departments or heavy equipment repair shops
Red Seal Mechanic Strong mechanical knowledge across various machinery types including farm equipment and industrial machinery Skilled in reading schematics and technical manuals for troubleshooting complex systems Demonstrated ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently Experience with assembly processes and maintenance procedures involving power tools and hand tools Prior supervisory or leadership experience in a shop environment is preferred Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with clients and team members
Qualifications
Must have a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience, and Heavy Duty Mechanic 310T certification. The ability to control the flow of work, and identify and solve problems as they arise. Work as a leader amongst the team, and ensure profitability by the use of effective leadership, guidance, mentoring and scheduling of jobs in priority.
Physical Requirements
Some of the physical demands may include, but not be limited to: pro-longed sitting and using a computer and telephone for entire shift etc.
