The Opportunity:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for an Engineer in Training – Electric Utility to fill a permanent full-time position. This is an Engineering position providing training and development opportunities to Engineers-in-Training working within the Electric Light & Power Utility Section. The position will be assigned a variety of duties providing progressively challenging development opportunities in electrical engineering and ensure APEGA experience requirements for P.Eng designation are met.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
- University Graduate with a Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as an Engineer-in-Training.
- 0 to 4 years of direct related experience in the design, construction maintenance and management of power utility infrastructure.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Electrical Engineering, including relevant standards and codes.
- Knowledge of the principles of surveying and computer aided drafting and design.
- Knowledge of computer engineering applications and operation in conjunction with normal duties.
- Knowledge of the current methods and techniques as applied to design and construction of various civil/municipal works, including utility installations, and roadway networks.
- Ability to work with contractors, consultants, City staff, property owners, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- There will be some exposure to risk, due to on-site construction inspection and coordination of various projects.
- Must be prepared to work extended hours on occasion

$36.95 to $47.51per hour ($76,863 to $98,825 per annum)
Hours of Work:
80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, some evening and weekend work may be required when needed.
