JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Manager, Health & Safety, the Health & Safety Advisor provides guidance, coaching, and support to ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and best practices while helping to build a strong safety culture. The Health and Safety Advisor work closely with management, employees, and external stakeholders to identify hazards, reduce risks, and promote safe work practices across all operations.
Responsibilities

Facilitate orientation, onboarding, and ongoing H&S training.

Lead or participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings.

Conduct site inspections and audits (including night/weekend visits).

Prepare health, safety, and environmental reports.
-
Review incident/inspection reports and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Develop, implement, and maintain safe work practices, job hazard analyses, and safety documentation.

Advise and coach managers/supervisors on H&S compliance and best practices.
-
Conduct or support investigations of safety incidents/issues.
-
Support WSIB claims management and return-to-work initiatives.
-
Maintain company emergency equipment inventory (first aid kits, extinguishers, etc.).
-
Contribute to continuous improvement of the HSE program and support accreditations (e.g., COR, ISO 45001).
-
Engage in industry associations/benchmarking to stay current with best practices.
-
Perform other H&S duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Experience
-
3-5 years of progressive experience in Occupational Health & Safety, ideally in construction.
-
Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and related Industrial & Construction Regulations.
-
WHMIS, fall protection, traffic control, PPE, machine guarding, cranes/lifting devices, first aid, fire protection, emergency response, noise standards.
-
WSIB claims processes and workers’ compensation legislation.
-
COR (Certification of Recognition) and ISO 45001 standards.
-
General safety management systems and best practices in construction/industrial environments.
-
Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).

Education
- Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, HSE Management, Safety Engineering, or related discipline (preferred).
Certifications

CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional), NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer), or equivalent (asset).

COR (Certification of Recognition) support experience (asset).

ISO 45001 certification support experience (asset).

Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
